Doyle is not playing, she decided to focus solely on music. She is a very talented singer. As for summer ball, this is very important, not your record but just getting better in general. Teams that work hard in the off season and have success in the off season will carry that over into the regular season. Especially for a team like Mason. They didn't have a good year in regular season and they were still learning the system and his style of ball and now I can tell you that they look great. All 7 of these girls have greatly improved individually as well as collectively. Fun to watch.

Is she taking choir or something, because I know she hasn't in the past. Are you sure that's her reasoning for not playing, because to stick it out until your senior year and quit seems to me like she is quitting for some of the same reasons that the other girls have been quitting for. Not saying you're wrong, just making an observation.

Who will be the point guard?

Point guard will have to be Moran imo, unless something else happens before the season starts.:idunno:

Don't you mean Keller Menke?

This comes from other players on the team. I have not personally spoken with Doyle. She didn't start as a junior, so that may be why she didn't play again this year, they didn't graduate any starters and the only starter from last year not returning is the point guard. I don't know. I was just told she was focusing on music. The team is focused on the team that they have now and not looking as to who is "NOT" playing. They have a "play the hand you are dealt" mentality. Playing it well with 2 more wins today, one over Conner and one over a team from Ohio. They play again tonight. As far as running the point, it is Moran.

Focusing on music is just an excuse to quit for Doyle. The real reason she quit is because she felt cheated last year with starting the first game(playing alright) and not really seeing much of the court for the rest of the year. Also freshman to be Taylor Allen quit, I don't know why but it came as a big surprise to me. She seemed to have a very promising future and I don't understand the move at all. I would say that the girls program does get cheated at Mason Co., like said before me their assistant coaches are a joke. Maybe lack of support from the administration is a reason for some of the girls quitting but I do think the program is headed in the right direction with Butcher. He has a passion for the game and is going to make them play defense(unlike Buser). I look for Mason Co. to be top 5 in the region this year and who knows what will happen with the region being so wide open.

Keller Menke cant play the point, she is a decent ball-handler but would be better served in the post, instead of wearing herself out directing the offense and being dogged defensively every moment.

I agree with you on some points. Apparently they are playing well this summer which helps build confidence for their upcoming season. However, the "play the hand you are dealt" mentality I have a hard time with. It is going to be a long season with 7 players, which to my understanding, some have played this summer on the JV. It will be very difficult to complete the season with 11 or 12 players on your roster, do you scrap the freshman team and JV team and just compete at the varsity level. Possibly some of the winning done this summer will excite some new interest into the program, and help bring some girls back out in the fall if they are allowed. Personally, I think some of the defections were a result of losing and being so young and not being deal with it. IMO they definitely need more players, hopefully everything will work out.

I agree. You can play summer ball with 7, but come high school time, it is definitely better to have a larger roster. If a few players were to get hurt, then their team would be in trouble. Hopefully all will work out for the best. They lost some good talent this summer from people quitting, and people who I saw big things for in the future and I thought that these kids had a love for the game. Hopefully they will realize this summer when they're not playing what they're missing out on and try for the team again in the fall if the coach were to allow them to come back.

To my understanding, the Allen girl is not playing any summer ball, and Butler is playing with a team out of Ohio/WestVirginia. I have no clue about Morton, Henry, Stewart, Cropper, Gibbs, Morris, if they are even playing at all this summer.

It will be hard to field a competitive practice this fall and make the girls better without some of these players coming back into the picture.

Keller Menke didn't play the post position last year, Beth Queen played the post position and was injured. I hear Queen plays the guard position on her AAU team. How has she been playing this summer? How did they finish at EKU?

Wrong on Beth Queen, she played in the post. Butler played the position last year.

Mason Co summer camp is Monday and Tuesday and I am betting some of these girls play. At least I hope.

What teams are playing in this?
