You're right, they did beat East Carter @ Morehead, but by 1, not by 20+, I was there!! Good game.

Other than East Carter, they have pretty much played small schools that I have never heard of. Good practice, and it's nice to win, but to get better they should start playing some tougher competition.

When you go to camp, you play who they put you to play. They don't get to choose. They went to Morehead Camp and now University of Louisville's camp and as I understand it to EKU camp this week. What more are you wanting them to do exactly? The Lady Royals went 4-0 at MSU and 5-2 at U of L. They are really playing defense and moving the ball well. They have beat some very good competition.

I didn't knock them at all. It's good to win, and I know you don't always get to pick who you play. It seems like even with all the drama surrounding the team that these ladies are ignoring all that and are taking care of business, and I wish them nothing but the best.

 

Who all exactly remains on this team, and can anyone tell us anything about who's starting, who's improved, etc.

EVERYONE has improved. It is amazing to watch these girls. The top 7 girls are interchangable. They all play about the same amount of minutes. This team plays tough defense (full court) and trust me playing 3 games a day in the summer this is not an easy task. They move the ball on offense, making several good passes and driving to create shots for other players. Menke, Queen, Smith, Moran, Menke, Moore, and Lykins are the 7 and any of them can start and any can play. Great core group. They will be fun to watch this season.

Summer ball, IMO, is not a very good indication of how good a team is going to be. Generally the teams aren't very organized and have multiple players out of the lineup. This is not to say that Mason hasn't improved, just a general observation about games over the summer.

Summer ball and summer camps are the biggest joke out there. 99.9 percent of the kids don't want to be there or would rather be somewhere else. This is not a gauge of success whatsoever,either good or bad.

I wasn't referring as to the Lady Royals were going to win the region or anything,Just that they are now 9-2 on summer and aren't going to be near as bad as some are trying to make it sound on here!I know for sure summer ball means nothing.

As an outside observer I can tell you that I saw the Mason County girls at U of L and they play hard! The competition they played was mid upper level for the most part with a couple of teams being topnotch. They played ferocious full court, running and trapping for every game I was able to watch. They moved the ball well and when they needed a basket they got the ball to someone who could make a play. The coach was demanding, instructing, and praising, and most of all he had more enthusiasm for his kids and how they played than most I saw there.

 

As for summer ball not meaning a whole lot, I agree that it doesn't go into the standings but tell me a team in the state play-offs that didn't have most of their starters playing and working on their game in the summer either with their high school or club team and I'll bet you won't be able to give me one.

Could it be possible some of the 7th or 8th graders might transfer over to St.Pats? Elaine Douglas is a great coach and these girls could definitely benefit from her as a coach. Is this rumor or truth?
