Tiller killed

His death was also an abortion performed rather late in it's term.

I agree with your thoughts. It don't matter what side of the debate you're on, murder is murder...

I am Pro-Life. However, the person who shot Tiller completed their own 'death penalty'. I am against murder or any human (be it abortion or a murder such as this). The killer should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

You live by the sword, you die by the sword.... and other assorted sound-bite responses................

I ask because he was murdered. While you and I might not like his actions as a doctor as far as I know they were legal according to the law of the land. Therefore, he didn't deserve to be murdered, thus, the reaction should be the same as any other law-abiding citizen who we disagree with.

You OK with this murder? Can you rationalize it?

It doesn't bother me in the least bit.

The killer should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I don't care what the doctor did there is no justification for murdering him.

Reactions should be varied.
Reactions shouldn't be varied, but obviously they are.

On a serious note, saying Tiller got what he deserved is like saying a woman who dresses provocatively and gets raped gets what she deserved. Thus, no I do not think Tiller deserved to be murdered. However, I do feel late-term abortions are 100% evil. jmo.

Well, it appears that opinions on the abortion of babies, even in the late- term, receives varied reactions- even on BGP. Why would you think that the killing of one of the four remaining late term abortionists would not be varied? As spindoc said, this could be called another late-term abortion.

One big difference ... Tiller's murder is a clear violation of the law.

Regardless of whether or not you believe abortion should be legal, it is under the current law of the land.

I am not so certain that reactions shouldn't be varied. I believe there is an obvious moral dilemma. Should you allow someone who you believe is a mass murderer to continue to murder innocents, or do you try to save the lives of some innocents by murdering the mass murderer?

It seems to me that there are times where some people believe that what is legal is also greviously immoral and feel that it is more important to do what is moral rather than do what is legal. Remember, in the days prior to the civil war, those who hid slaves in the underground railroad were breaking the law. Also, in Germany hiding a Jew from the Nazi's was also illegal. Were those people right to do what they did?

It also seems to me that a government can not allow any citizen to take the law into their own hands particularly when it results in the death of someone who has not broken any law. So I believe that the proper action for the government is to put him on trial, and if convicted, he should go to jail for a very long time if not for the rest of his life.

It seems to me that what side an individual will chose to come down on depends upon how much weight one puts on doing what is legal versus how immoral one views the current legal conditions. It seems to me that throughout history people have came down on both sides so it seems only reasonable that people would continue to come down on both sides on issues where people feel very strongly.

For the record, I don't think the doctor should have been murdered-- mostly because I don't believe Jesus would have murdered the doctor. That said, if I had the choice between being the doctor or the guy who shot the doctor when I had to explain my actions to God on Judgement day, I would not choose to be the doctor.

I don't believe that the doctor should have been murdered any more than the babies he aborted.

In this chilling case of murder, wouldn't it be cool if the murderer's name was Miller? I say this because then we could have news headlines such as:

Miller, Killer of Tiller, in this Chiller of a Murder Case.

I think it is fair to conclude that we see the impact of the incident somewhat differently. Possibly we should just agree to disagree.
