I am a registered Democrat and all my family is, and I voted for Gore. I thought I was politically informed.....I wasn't.

I have been conservative for most of my life. It just took me a while to get involved enough to realize that was where my opinions fell.

I used to be very nearly an idealist before anyone on here knew me. Needless to say my eyes have been opened to the nature of such youthful frivolity.

It's never too late to realize the error of your ways in your youth and repent.

I think I'm probably one of the most conservative posters on the site however I had to say conservative but more liberal. My tolerance and acceptance of certain issues has definitely changed over the years.

I have remained conservative most of my life with the exception of my departure from traditional conservative viewpoints on a couple of issues: the death penalty (was in favor, now bedgrudgingly opposed); so-called 'tort reform' (was in favor, now violently opposed); and maybe some consumer areas where I have flip-flopped.

I voted for Goldwater , I voted for Obama . Need I say more .

I used to suppress my libertarian leanings more. Now I fully embrace them and openly oppose anything I feel isn't of the nature.

Nothing up there describes my 'then and now' viewpoint.

 

I've had moderately liberal social leanings all my life.

I've had moderately conservative fiscal leanings all my life.

I've been straight down the moderate line on national defense issues, supporting some military actions, opposing others.

I'm confused whether I'm liberal or conservative on the death penalty. I have always vehemently opposed it, but given that most of that opposition is rooted in my faith, I find that hard to consider liberal.

I've never been a gun rights activist. But I don't have opposition with the ownership of guns, just the policies that surround one of my hot-button topics-safety.

I'm also not sure where my leanings on such issues as education fall. I have always felt paying for education made it more valuable. Not in the sense of better, necessarily, but in the personal value one puts on education.

I am pro-life, but don't consider legislation the answer to the problem.

I don't oppose taxes, but do feel that there must be a fairer, better system.

I was a big time lefty through college (I even voted for Jimmy Carter against Reagan:eek::scared:), then employment AT a college and dealing with real leftys up close and personel on a daily basis caused me to rethink my beliefs.

Care to elaborate on this? Currently, the wealthiest Americans pay a MUCH MUCH higher % of the income tax burden than do moderate or low-income Americans. So by fairer, do you mean taxes should be lowered for the wealthy and raised on moderate and low income families in order to level the playing field?
