June 3, 200917 yr It is easier to just call Microsoft. Had it happen to me once and they emailed me a UPS shipping label. I mailed it off and it was shipped back within the week. Took a total of 9 days because I missed the truck a couple of times.

That's what we've done and to be honest, you guys on here helped walk me "back from the ledge." I'll let you know when we get it back. :thumb:

Sometimes you'll get a different console if the original one could not be fixed.
June 3, 200917 yr It has happened to me once, a couple of years ago. I called Microsoft and within 3 days, they sent me a package for me to send out free of charge. They replaced it for free and shipped it back to me within 2 weeks. It was very quick because I tracked all the day down to South Texas and back.
June 3, 200917 yr You can do it all online at the x-box site. They have instructions there on what to do. They'll send you a box and you ship it to them. They'll fix it for free if it's the red ring of death, just select the one that says $0.00. Supposedly the new ones do not have this problem.

The newer ones were built on better chips that ran cooler. The original motherboards (Xenon) had all kinds of trouble, and failed at a very high rate. It's never been fully admitted, but it's been pretty much accepted that Microsoft pushed out the systems faster to get out ahead of the PS3, and in so doing missed this problem. Which is why they've made good by doing the extended warranty. Newer systems ship with new motherboards (Falcon), and I haven't heard a whole lot of problems with them. As bad as the RROD is, the emerging problem these days with the XBox is the E74 error, which means the graphics are shot. One of the guys I play with online had this happen, and it's intermittent, but it's a chronic problem. The screen will go green on him and after restarting it will simply display E74 Error
June 3, 200917 yr NEVER ever try and fix the Xbox yourself because Microsoft will send it back to you if they figure out you tried to fix it by yourself. My friend learned this the hard way. And yes this has actually happened to me 3 times. Next time it happens I am going to ask for more than just a 1 month free of XBL. Microsoft has actually started implanting chips into the 360 so that it prevents this from happening. They also dont send your same Xbox back either. It will be a refurbished one from them as well. Anything else you need just ask me, I know pretty much everything there is to know about Microsoft and the 360 .
June 3, 200917 yr I also want to mention while your xbox is gone will be the hardest thing in your life to go through.

June 4, 200917 yr The reason I have a PS3...My brother has had two do this.. That's the one reason I'd take a PS3 over the Xbox. It's also the only reason. I like the games for Xbox better, the over all set up, as well as the online game play.
