I don't think this is the case at all, I'm 98% sure Evans would have already taken the job if it was his to take. I have heard three other names the last couple of days, Kelly Combs (current Union College coach), Brent West (current Corbin asst.) and one that is a puzzle to me, Tony Patterson (long ago KC player). To my knowledge he has never coached anywhere and does not teach either. To his credit he was a really good player back in the 80's. Also a couple of assistant coaches from Laurel Co. names are floating around.

Les I would have thought for sure you would know were West has been:idunno:. I remember he had some success at W'burg, not at LC long, one or two years maybe. I was in Barbourville Monday and heard the names I listed. If Combs were to get this job Evans may be able to go back to his old job at Union, just a thought.

I remember covering him at Williamsburg when Davenport, Robinson and West won the 50th District crown in 1998, but I don't remember what he did at Lynn Camp. I believe he coached one or two years there. I know he had some success at the Burg.

 

As for the coaches in the running at Knox, I still believe it will be Evans or Combs, but wilder things have happened.

West has helped the Redhounds alot since he has been there, what if he did leave and won a region as a head coach elsewhere, that would be cool for any current assistant coach. He may not really be in the running for the KC job, don't really know, but he would do as well or better than the last few years, I would guess.

Anybody heard anything new on this job? There doesn't seem to be a lot rumors going around like there usually are.

It appears all summer ball has been cancelled at KC for the present time. Some of their players are playing for other teams as a result. Most are involved with football. Sounds like no one other than Hulett has a clue as to who has applied, who is doing the hiring or when a coach will be in place. It seems like a difficult place to coach to begin with, now no summer work for the team, possible transfers. Who would really wants to step into that situation? Granted, it would have seemed like a top five team returning if Elam would have been left in place, now I can not see it being a very successful situation.

If Hicks thought about Knott County Central, I don't see why he wouldn't consider Knox Central. He brought Corbin back and he is a 13th region boy. I know he is very unhappy with his situation in Scott County.

I don't think the administration will throw that kind of money around when the masses can be pacified with Brian Evans. I have no inside info, just a knowledge of how things work here. Do not expect any big name hire. Possibly Union HC Kelly Combs but most likely Evans.

I agree, big money would have to sent down to the west end of the county as well if someone like Hicks came in. Due to the policy in place the coaches at KC and LC make the same money besides experience factor according to my sources.

I just heard that the summer basketball has been cancelled!! Is this true? If so, does the Administration really care about the kids or do they just care about their personal agenda??

Dr. X, I am hearing that the administration is caring only about their personal agenda. I believe in letting Elam go they have hurt that more than the kids, they have set that program back espically if the talk of kids transfering is true.
