Brandon Elam will not be be back as coach of the Panthers next season it appears. Many had speculated this earlier and now it seems to have come full circle.

I guess that the parent who vowed that either Elam or his son would be gone had more political pull than Elam.:idunno:

They were still running radio ads for his summer basketball camp. I am surprised a little bit by this. I think he did a good job. As far as this past season, they ran into a team playing their best ball of the season in North Laurel, a team that took Corbin to the wire in the regional semifinals. I hate to see him go as I have a relative on that team and he had a lot of respect for Coach Elam.

Elam was always one of me favorite coaches to watch work the sidelines. A very intense competitor who seemed like a good motivator especially against Corbin. Wonder if the new contract issued to the Supt this week had anything to do with the timing of this move? Does Knox still have to pay Elam for coaching this season since they waited so late in the year to inform him that he would not be needed? Who will be possible folks for this position? Sizemore from South would be my top pick, then Evans and maybe Whitaker if all could coexist with another guard at KC.

I would not have given the Super better than a 5% chance of getting re-hired..............very surprising to me.

IMO there were more than one parent upset and maybe even a grandparent who didn't like the way things were going, not a real suprise, maybe a few more things to happen as well.

That's too bad. I always liked Coach Elam and felt he never got a fair shake from some of the fans there at KC.

I had a chance to meet Coach Elam a few times and he really seemed to have a love for Knox Central. They will be hard pressed to find someone that had a more vested interest in the success of the team and school. I wish him the best of luck and wouldn’t be surprised to see him on the sidelines at another school very soon.

I agree. This past season, he had to step between an assistant coach and an irate parent after a game in the regions to keep it from coming to blows. He definitely had a love for the game and for KC.

South Laurel's assistant. He will be a GREAT head coach when that opportunity comes along. If KC could find a way to get him, it would be a major plus, but for some reason, I don't see it happening right now.

Seems like it has been since he started. I can't remember a year when there weren't rumors of someone angling behind the scenes to get him fired.
