IMO it is really open and the Supt. will have a large say in who gets it. Maybe they will bring back Bill Swafford from retirement, he has came back to coach at least 2 times before. Evans would be the logical choice because he already teaches in Knox Co. and had middle school sucess with most of the current players, and has years of college coaching experience, but that county dosen't always use common sense.

Is Whitaker interested from Hazard? He is a solid coach and if he got the job you could about go ahead and rate Knox Central as the top team in the 13th with his son teaming up with Miller.

Coach Evans is a good coach and a class guy. It sounds to reasonable for this hire to be done.

IF Coach Evans is the man for the job, then they "the administration", need to go ahead and give him the position. After all, he is already in the district. If the admin. opens the position (which would be 30+ days from now) and then gives Coach Evans the job, that would not be right for the players involved to go the whole summer with out him.

This makes a lot of sense to me. Didn't he try to get in a couple of years ago with Central before they made the move to Hazard? As a matter of fact, I think Josh played for Knox Central that summer before he decided to go to Hazard. I know for a fact that Josh and Cody Miller are great friends and have played AAU together the last couple of years.

May be wrong, but I don't see that happing at KC and coach as well.

My question is who would want a job in Knox County as a coach? They do not want a coach they want someone they can tell how to do their job.

The word that I am hearing is that the consensus of people who have some power in Knox Co. want Evans. He has had success at the middle school level with the kids who will be freshman and sophomores and they expect that he would have the same type of success at the high school level. Evans was 26-25 in 2 years at Whitley Co. with first round exits from the district tournament courtesy of Barbourville. Whitley County's record was worse the year before and the year after his stint there.

I have heard three other names the last couple of days, Kelly Combs (current Union College coach), Brent West (current Corbin asst.) and one that is a puzzle to me, Tony Patterson (long ago KC player). To my knowledge he has never coached anywhere and does not teach either. To his credit he was a really good player back in the 80's. Also a couple of assistant coaches from Laurel Co. names are floating around.

Sounds like Knox Central is doing a search to find the best person to fill the position. Central will have a lot of talent returning. This team should be very guard laden and if Miller will move into the post a bit more they could very well win the region in 2010. Tony Patterson starred at ETSU and I think played a year or two of basketball overseas as well. He would be an interesting hire. Do they have a search committee or will the Principal and site based do the hiring for this position. Teaching positions might also dictate which direction the Panthers are leaning.
