I agree love it,:thumb: but since so many of us love it and we are baseball nuts, the KHSAA will hate it!:idunno:

Do you realize how a few days of rain could really cause a lot of problems, especially because some school systems are still in session?

This would be my suggestion ...

Allow the regional runners-up to move on to semistate competition. There would be eight four-team semistates, two in each sectional.

For example, this season the 1st and 2nd region champions meet in the semistate series. Change the format back to a single-elimination tournament, with those two teams hooking up with the 3rd and 4th region runners-up. The regional winners would meet a runner-up in the first round and are the home teams.

Under this format, it's possible that two teams from the same region could meet in the state tournament. If they're both good enough to get there, more power to them.

I as well like something similar to the above. how many fields in the state have artificial turf? Fields such as the Florence Freedom field that he 9th region uses.

Yeah, that certainly could be a problem. You could perhaps shift everything to weekends, but graduations get in the way. If you move into the early part of the week you can't play multiple games in one day. It's a perdicament.

Your proposal likely would be the safest bet and would make for a good tournament as well.

I like both my idea and your idea better than the current situation, however.

Rain is always the X-factor in baseball and softball. The system is fine the way it is. The reason these top teams have all lost is because of the regions they play in not because of the fairness of the tournament. All of these teams have lost to other really good teams. It is a geography problem not a scheduling problem.

That is a lot of innings on young arms. College teams have a hard time with the pitching issue in their tournaments. There is no way high school teams have enough arms for this.

:confused:This is what I don't like about the sectional this season between the 8th and 7th region. The schedule for it is M-W-F rather than 3 nights in a row. The schedule defeats the purpose of a series in which you would have to see a teams top 3 pitchers. Now it will be a team's ace throwing twice in the same series. You might as well have just 1 game if you are going to do a MWF series. It defeats the purpose of a series and I can't understand why it's not 3 nights in a row. Would someone explain the logic in that?

There are probably many different formats that would be an improvement over the current, and each would have it's pluses and minuses. Before making any changes though, I think it's best to identify exactly what the goal of the system should be to begin with.

So, what is the goal(s) of the baseball playoff? To me, the goal of each level of playoff is something like this:

1) Identify the best team to send off to the next level of playoff (would the best team prevail in most years? If not, maybe the system is not the best.)

2) Provide a quality baseball experience to all those participating - players, families and schools (does everyone take something positive away from the experience, win, loose or draw? If people leave with a sour taste in their mouths, support for the activity will diminish over time.)

3) Negatively impact those participating as minimally as possible (were the educational & monitary impacts to the participants kept as minimal as possible? If getting to & playing in the games is costing the players too much time away from their studies, and is costing them, their families and their schools too much money, is this really an appropriate school activity?)

Find a system that maximizes these goals, and I think you've found a good playoff system.

Are all Semi-States M-W-F? If so, the 10th Region and 14th Region are at a big disadvantage going into the Semi-State with their Regional Finals on Saturday.

Looking at the KHSAA website, that looks to be the case.

Actually, I heard the 9th and 10th semis are at St. Henry on Tues, Wed and Friday(if needed). All games are at 7:00. I heard this was still tentative.

From my experiences, the semi-states are usually Th-F-Sat. But I think it's really up to the host and participating schools.

That is already a problem. Look at the 10th region tournament right now.

This is a great set up but it definitely gives an advantage to larger school. No more innings on young arms (because of the rules in place) but you need more depth to compete.

This is an excellent point and a big problem with the regionals and sub-regionals. M-W-F and one ace can win the sub-regional.

Since wholesale changes are unlikely. I would like to see the regional final be pushed back to the weekend and play a best-of-3 and then a best-of-3 sub-regional.
