That is already a problem. Look at the 10th region tournament right now.

 

 

 

This is a great set up but it definitely gives an advantage to larger school. No more innings on young arms (because of the rules in place) but you need more depth to compete.

 

 

 

This is an excellent point and a big problem with the regionals and sub-regionals. M-W-F and one ace can win the sub-regional.

 

Since wholesale changes are unlikely. I would like to see the regional final be pushed back to the weekend and play a best-of-3 and then a best-of-3 sub-regional.

 

It is fine to play M-W-F but they need to limit pitching to like 10 innings for the tourney. That way 1 stud couldn't win 2 games for a team.

(1) Make the district tournaments double elimination. Only the winning team advances, which means four teams would move on to the regional tournament.

 

(2) The regional tournament (four teams) would then be double elimination. Winner would move on to the sectional tournament.

 

(3) The sectional tournament (four teams; 1-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-16) would also be double elimination. You could perhaps hold those tournaments at Western, Louisville, UK, and Morehead, or other quality stadiums.

 

(4) The state tournament (four teams) would be a double elimination tournament. Two games on Friday night, three on Saturday, then one final game (perhaps two, if necessary) on Sunday afternoon.

If you want to see the very best teams in the state, this is the right way to go. In a game like baseball, one and done doesn't necessarily dictate the better team. Keep in mind, my Rocks have benefited from the current format.

To me, this year's results only validate the current system. If tournaments are always supposed to be as they are on paper (to those that take time to vote), then why play them. It is for who plays well at the right time. Regardless of format, you have to perform. This year's tournaments continue to be very interesting with the results. To me, the weather and inconsistent play patterns of this spring have a lot more to do with unpredictable results that the format of any tournament.

Couldn't disagree more. This format allows a small school (or even a large one) who only has one or two arms to find a way to win and advance, if the coach just plays it right.

As can the small school. The issue is to allow for teams with less pitchers to be able to throw them multiple times. The studs will still be the stud no matter the format. Putting a day of rest in between makes the coach make a choice after 5 innings rather than 2, a much better balance
