I'll be honest I am starting to lean on Houston to upset that whole division this year IF Schaub stays healthy. I like the Colts but losing Mudd, Moore, Dungy + Harrison is an awful lot to overcome. Tenn is one of the best run franchise in the league but they lost their best player and he has been a game changer. They will be in the hunt though. Jacks got better on the line+T. Holt was a great pickup + got rid of the cancers. I'm a MJD fan (he is a bowling ball)! I don't know about the D + other playmakers though.

Houston is at that point that it is now time for them I think. The new aggresive defense is what they have been missing IMO.

I for one, can't count Indy out of anything. Even Tom Moore will tell you that Peyton was and is the OC. I don't think the coaching staff changes will hurt Indy that bad. Harrison has been non-existent the last two years(ask any of my fantasy teams and they'll tell you he's lost more than a step) and Peyton didn't get going last year until late in the year. I do think that they will be as good as they normally are if not better. Good rb platoon, great receivers(including their te, Dallas Clark, above average defense, and Peyton Manning spell 10-12 wins for Indy.

 

In the same fashion that the Bengals have to earn respect,(they do have to earn it, BTW) so do the Texans. Until Indy is unseated from their perch atop the division, I'll have to roll with Indy. I agree that Houston is a team that has a chance to be good and make the playoffs, but to be the best you have to beat the best and beating Indy is not something the Texans can do or have done on a regular basis. To their credit, they are getting better.

I agree you can't count Indy out but I think Mudd+Dungy are two of the best at what they do. I agree on Harrison...I thought they were better with Gonzo in but it's that security blanket + opens things up for Wayne more.

How are the last two decades relevant in these rankings? I understand you haven't had you're fix of ripping on the Bengals lately, but this one just doesn't really add up...

Cincinnati has some work to do, but some of the new players on D will defintly help them. It can only get better.

So by your logic, Arizona should be ranked 28??? It doesn't matter how long a team has been a poor team if they have recently gotten the right pieces together... I'm not saying the Bengals have, but by you're logic, the Rays, Royals, Hawks, and Cardinals should be ranked low in their respective sports. The past year makes sense, not the past 20...

Not only have the Bengals only had 1 winning season in the past 20 years, they haven't had a winning season in the past 3 years.

 

Last year they were 4-11-1. In 2007 they were 7-9. In 2006 they were 8-8. Notice a trend? They keep getting worse. I don't feel like they have added anything to their team that will make a huge change this year. Getting Palmer back will help, but I don't think they have a good enough line or running game to do much on offense.

 

This is an organization that is consistently bad and has been for the past two decades. I agree that the last 20 years do not have a lot to do with what they will do next year. But what have they done to be ranked higher? Why in the heck should they be ranked higher? They have done next to nothing to justify moving them up higher than that right now in any rankings.

And no, Arizona did win some games last year so they should not be ranked #28. They made it to the super bowl. And I probably wouldn't have ranked Cincy #28 the year after they went 11-5.

 

The Browns, who were bad last year and who have been pretty bad since they came back as an expansion team, should be ranked low. Not only because they are pretty bad most years, but because they were pretty bad last year as well.

 

 

BTW, I don't think Arizona will be all that great this year. They play in a weak division so it wouldn't surprise me if they win it, but I don't think they will make a return trip to the super bowl.

The Arz battery of Warner/Fitz/Boldin is as good as it gets in the NFL...add Wells to that and they are sure tough to slow down IMO.

I think that's always such a great thing about sports. It's interesting to see how teams respond when they are the hunted and not the hunter. I can tell you from coaching a lot it's much tougher when you are the hunted unless you are just flat loaded.

I'm anxious to see what Dallas does with the 3 headed monster at RB. Barber is as physical as it gets in the NFL. Choice played really well down the stretch and I really think Felix Jones is going to be a star. I'm excited they will be more run dominant with Witten in the play action game. Not sold on R. Williams and still think they should have gotten another WR.

Speaking of 3 headed RB's I think Oak is very intriguing. Not to win it all but to push in that division along with a young KC team. Russell is a speciman but hasn't produced yet. With Garcia breathing down his kneck I think he will push him. Garcia is good enough to win them some ballgames. McFadden healthy is big but I am so glad Mike Bush got his shot in Tampa last year! I really think he is much like a Mike Turner! I wish he would get the rock that much! I always knew he was a big kid physically. I saw a picture of him and my old high school coach the other day...WOW! My coach was a big man and Bush dwarfed him! Give him the rock!

Totally disagree. There is no reason other than blind optimism to think the Bengals will be anywhere near the top next year. Thats the way it's been year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, after year, well maybe now you get it. I had season tickets until the early 90s. I saw what Mike Brown was doing and refused to blindly hand the man my money. Some get it, and some don't. HB20 gets it.

Seriously, I'm not sure what to expect. I'm anxious to see how good the defense and the D-line will be with no Haynesworth. I love the back seven.

 

How will Chris Johnson fare in year two? If he improves, the offense could be really good. He was shredding the Ravens last year prior to the ankle injury that sidelined him. I expect the passing game to be better. And, I think they have a top notch offensive line.

 

I like the offense better than the defense going into the season. I expect the offense to open up more and put more points on the board. That all hinges on Johnson being healthy and at least as good as his rookie year.

 

They should be right in the thick of things, but the AFC is competitive. Particularly the AFC South. They could win the division or miss the playoffs, IMO. Neither result would surprise me.

I don't completely dismiss others ideas when they talk bad about the Giants. I do not personally attack others who do not like the Giants. I will argue my butt off if someone says the Giants will be bad, but I won't tell them they "don't know anything". I believe that is a bit ridiculous.
