May 13, 200917 yr Author Ron Paul. I need to look at Ron a little closer. From what I do know about him, I don't guess I would rule him out.
May 13, 200917 yr Like Somalia or Pre-Taliban Afgahnistan? There are places with no government in this world, but they are places you don't want to go to. First of all, I believe that our founding fathers gave us a fairly solid foundation. How much govt. regulation do you want? I do not need the government to tell someone that spent their money to open a business how they should run that business. If you want to eat at McDonalds but want them to offer more healthy food, then open your own restaraunt. Don't have the govt. tell them what kind of oil to use. I can't eat movie popcorn anymore because they were forced to make it healthier. Why, if it is not something that you want don't buy it. If your kids are crying for a happy meal and you won't let them have it, blame yourself, not the restaraunt. Laws and rules are important, legislating common sense is STUPID! No comparrison to your example. When the govt gives me my car, then they can tell me to wear a seat belt. Less is More!
May 13, 200917 yr Yeah!!! who needs the government to tell people they cannot paint kids' toys with lead paint, or run a "clean" meat packing plant. Who are they to tell me I can't straight pipe my waste from my toilet to the Kentucky River? who needs the government to tell the tannery in Bell Co. that they have to stop dumping their poison into Yellow Creek which flows into the Cumberland. Darn that intrusive government. Who needs a government to tell people from outside of our country that they need the right documents to come in.

The government takes more and more and gives back less and less. Why on earth would anyone want it to keep getting bigger and gain more control? As for the last two lines, that applies to everyone except Mexico, right?

What you have stated here is far different than the intrusive government Obama wishes to create. He wants a government that regulates the type of car or truck I drive, the food or drink I ingest, which doctor I may go to. These and other intrusions are about individual decisions I should be making about my my life. He also wants to steal from my income, or, rather pay outrageous taxes to support the government that wants to control my life. But there are those darned elitists who smarter than the average person, who wants the power to tell everyone what to do.
May 13, 200917 yr I read today that the administration is looking into a tax on products containing sugar, because after all, sugar is evil and drives health care costs up. Almost all processed food products contain some form of sugar.

May 13, 200917 yr There is no more of a straw man here than there is hyperbole and fearmongering in the other posts. A majority of people in this country believed that our economic policy was focused too much on the rich and powerful and that our foreign policy was too unilateral. WE elected a president who promised to put us on a new course. From all of the demagoguery on here it would appear that he is doing just that. If, and I don't believe this to be true, but if he takes us too far to the left the country will adjust in four years and we can elect Cheney as the next President. Bush ate at our civil rights little by little and we recovered, if Obama eats at yours, then we will recover. It is just that he is eating at different civil rights that bother you.

May 14, 200917 yr WE didn't elect anything, and what civil rights of yours did Bush eat at? Unless you are no longer a part of this country, YES WE DID:ylsuper:
