May 12, 200917 yr Syndicated columnist Mark Steyn recently said "The Left's devotion to government gives it a unity of purpose the Right can't match." Do most Americans REALLY want more government intrusions in their lives or are they temporarily mesmerized? Is this country headed down a path that could change everything? Will my grandchildren depend on the government for things we worked for?
May 12, 200917 yr Syndicated columnist Mark Steyn recently said "The Left's devotion to government gives it a unity of purpose the Right can't match." It's an accurate statement. The so-called right needs to develop a unity of purpose of "limited government." However, the Republican Party, the supposed party of the Right, has NOT shown a commitment to this in a long, long time. So there is little unity of purpose in the Right, which is why the party has been cut up into a bunch of little factions- the neocon war hawks, the social conservatives, and the few remaining fiscal conservatives. The party needs to reunite under one common purpose.

There are too many people in the Republican party who supported the Patriot Act, are against gay marriage, favor the continued war on drugs, etc.; for it to ever recover from the years of damage done by the religious right and the revolution that began around '94. The GOP still pretends that they are this party but yet supports actions that are quite the opposite. This rhetoric will continue to fool the masses who claim to be fiscal conservatives. Unless the party can unite under someone like Ron Paul it will continue to feed the monster. I will be very interested to see who the GOP rolls out in '12. My feelings are that this person will be as much of a "limited government" person as McCain, GWB, or Obama for that matter.

Both parties will always have their "little factions" but the democrats have definitely reunited under one major purpose, unfortunately, it's bigger government.
May 12, 200917 yr The left can't even get their own agenda right... If we continue on Obama's path to government control the country will be too broke to help any one...

And how is this any different than what the Republicans have done? You show me one thing they have done to promote limited government and I can show you five things that are against the principals of a limited government.
May 12, 200917 yr The left can't even get their own agenda right... If we continue on Obama's path to government control the country will be too broke to help any one... This isn't a Democratic path or an Republican one. It is a political path in general. Neither party is exempt and neither party can take full credit for this.

Will my grandchildren depend on the government for things we worked for? It actually started long before any of us were born. I don't think it should be blaimed just on President Obama.
May 12, 200917 yr Less is More!Like Somalia or Pre-Taliban Afgahnistan? There are places with no government in this world, but they are places you don't want to go to.
May 12, 200917 yr It actually started long before any of us were born. I don't think it should be blaimed just on President Obama. Obama may not be able to claim originality but he can sure lay claim to setting a new benchmark. Obama is on a course that makes FDR look like a big government neophyte.
May 12, 200917 yr Like Somalia or Pre-Taliban Afgahnistan? There are places with no government in this world, but they are places you don't want to go to. France and Russia also have very large governments and I wouldn't want to live there either.

Did I say the "current" republican party had done anything right? I say get rid of them all and get some fiscally responsible conservatives in their place. Problem is...Other than Newt...I don't know any at this time.
