May 13, 200917 yr Author Though christian music isn't always my cup of tea, one of my favorite bands is a christian band. As I Lay Dying is one of the most talented bands out right now. It sounds just as hard as anything else only with messages that aren't typical Metal themes. They are amazing. A LOT of hardcore and metal bands are in the Christian genre. As I Lay Dying is great, I've seen them live several times and they always deliver. Another good Christian metal band is Haste The Day.

May 13, 200917 yr I think it bothers me that some look at the format and not the content, and refer to it as a 'scam'. IMHO, the biggest 'scam' the music industry has pulled on the public is the majority of 'rap'. I cannot understand anyone who refers to 'rappers' as musicians, when most them can't play an instrument or carry a tune. The genre itself built its popularity by lifting clips from real musicians and then talking over the beat. Many of the 'beats' go back to Billy Squier's 'Big Beat' song in the early 1980s. I will give some of them credit, at least those who gave credit to those real musicians from whom they lifted tracks/riffs/clips. There are even a few rap songs I like. But in general, that is the biggest scam, ... well then, maybe the 2nd biggest after the emergence of 'boy bands'. AAAAARRRRGGGGHHH! How do you define a "musician?" By your standard, you must only listen to opera, right?

Compared to a lot of the garbage that is out there that some feel must have foul language or indecent material to be 'music'. You may not like it, but calling Christian music a 'scam'? I will admit that much of it is not as original or commercially appealing as some other music. But to call it a 'scam' is just wrong. But then again, there really isn't much originality out there period. Every musician is influenced by some group or somebody they have listened to, regardless of what they say. And when I hear someone referring to rappers as 'musicians', I just want to puke. How many actually play an instrument or have any real musical ability at all? Very few. Same for many pop artists. Very few even write their own songs anymore. But to argue that Christian music itself is a 'scam', ... well, that is troublesome. I would say that Christian music is the biggest scam of any. The Christian music scene preys on a ready made audience that will listen to anything based on the message it has with a complete disregard towards the quality of music. If you don't want to, whatever that's fine too, but if you do, I think you will find that there are a lot of quality Christian music groups. Air 1 is mostly Christian rock, fyi. This is my personal opinion and I'm typing this as I listen to Iron Maiden. I don't limit my musical tastes to one genre, and I don't try to exclude any genre in my listenings. Good music extends beyond genres and time. My iTunes library spans everything from The Beatles, to Kings of Leon, to Etta James.
