Freshman class of 1972: Kevin Grevey, Jimmy Dan Conner, Mike Flynn, Bob Guyette, Jerry Hale, G.J. Smith

1979 Freshmen were only 3 but I think all 3 were McDonald's AA. Dwight Anderson, Clarance Tillman, Chuck Verderber. Class did not meet expectations.

1980 Freshmen: Sam Bowie, Dirk Minnifield, Derrick Hord, Charles Hurt. (Almost Ralph Sampson as well)

1981 Freshmen: Melvin Turpin, Dickie Beal, Jim Master

1975 Freshmen (were some of the most productive and heralded): Rick Robey, Jack Givens, Mike Phillips, James Lee, Dan Hall

1993 (as already mentioned): Roderick Rhodes, Tony Delk, Walter McCarty, Jared Prickett

Good work, "Hatz".

Your high school graduation class of 1980 of Melvin Turpin, Dickie Beal, and Jim Master is missing the highest ranked player out of high school in that group.

Bret Bearup out of New York was a top ten player in that entire class and higher ranked than those you mention. He had a very modest career while wearing the Blue and White.

How can I forget him? :scared: Man, I'm slipping.

Bearup turned out to be a great "pick setter" for Kenny Walker though. :D

I recall an interview with Bearup when Bret was talking about "trash talking" on the court. He said that Turpin would get so upset sometimes that he couldn't think of what words to say in reply. So when Mel did reply his own team mates would yell, "Spell it Mel! Spell it!"

Morris

Crawford

Bradley

Rondo

At least coming out of HS that was a pretty highly rated group.

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

The Morris, Crawford, Rondo, Bradley, and Patrick Sparks transfer was the #1 rated class in the country. They were an extremely highly rated class coming out of HS!

That class is the reason I'm holding my breath on this one. It was a nice class, but I think most of us thought it would turn out better than it was. Which alot of that was the system as well. Rondo being unleashed would have let him really be a force at the college level as he is at the NBA level.

I don't think Rondo was mature enough at that time to be unleashed. It has taken him a few years in the NBA, but my oh my has he matured. I love to watch him play now.

Totally agree on the maturity factor w/Rondo. He had a tremendous freshman season, no doubt! That class could have been very, very, SPECIAL!

Obviously Rondo wouldn't have been the player in college that he is right now, but he was severly handcuffed by the system he was asked to run. He could have been much more effective if he was allowed to play his game.

You can make that argument about many players and systems. If you really look at Rondo's freshman season, I am not sure how much better that season could have been, honestly!

His numbers were down as a sophomore, but he still was a first rounder. Very few people thought he would not succeed in the NBA because of his style of play!

He was a handcuffed a bit, but not nearly as much as some seem or want to think, no where near!

I respectfully disagree about him being handcuffed. I liken it to Dean Smith/Michael Jordan.

Had Ralph Sampson not decided at the last minute to go to Virginia rather than KY there would be no debate. Bowie, Hurt, Minnifield, Hord, Heitz.
