Craigslist

Featured Replies

Craigslist has been getting a lot of bad press lately. Murders and scams in the news related to the site. I have a friend who was scammed out of money there when trying to buy a car.

I have never been on the site myself. Anyone have any bad/good experiences with Craigslist?

I look on craigslist a lot for motorcycles, parts and such, and have never had any problems.

I have bought some very good quality musical equipment at great prices off of there, but I have never had any luck selling anything.

It was also beneficial in finding our band's new lead guitarist.

Also, some of their discussion forums are interesting. I can see how people can get into trouble on them, by giving out too much personal info, but they are no different than any other posting sites you go to. (Other than BGP, of course. :D )

Did it involve a money order? Craigslist has a big disclaimer at the top about not accepting any money orders.

I've been told to deal in cash only with Craigslist.

It had to do with wiring money. She was buying a car (out of town seller) and they wanted proof that she had the money so they told her to wire it to one of her friends. She had to tell them her friend's name. As soon as she wired it, someone using a fake id with her friends name on it claimed it before her friend could get it.

I posted about this awhile ago. Seems naive, but she was desperate for a good deal on a car.

Since then I have seen so much on the news about Craigslist, couldnt help but wonder how much legitimate business went on.

I only deal face to face with Craigslisters. I drove to Columbus, OH to look at some bikes, and it went well. I came home with a nice Honda that I later sold.

Same here. I only deal face-to-face and only in cash.

I have had some good experiences. Bought some subwoofers for my car for a ridiculously great price (I hooked them up before I purchased them) and turned around and sold my old ones within 24 hours of posting them on Craigslist. I only go face to face though I would never send any money orders or anything like that to anyone.

I prefer Ebay. Ebay is much safer & more widespread. Some retailers even advertise & put their items on Ebay, so it's no different than purchasing it at a store. And PayPal is about as good as it gets when it comes to online payments.

I've never purchased anything off of Craigslist, although I have browsed the "free items" section. Haven't been on there in a while, though, and probably won't be back.

I'm sure there is some nice stuff on there, but I see mostly junk. Guess that's why it's free.

I bought my motorcycle off there. Just use common sense.

A friend sold a refrigerator she had listed on Craigslist. The sale was local, face to face, and she sold it the next day for cash.

With eBay you never know what you're getting until it actually arrives, and by then you've already paid for it.

Craigslist at least gives you the option to see it/try it out first.
