Mine That Bird WILL run in Preakness

Featured Replies

If the track is sloppy and he gets to the rail down the stretch, look out! It could be deja vu all over again.

I'm not suprised, I don't see how or why they wouldn't run the Derby winner in the 2nd leg. I wonder what type of odds we'll see?

Depends on track position. I say if he gets a middle spot, he'll be at best 15-1, or 20-1.

If he's 15 or 20-1 and doesn't win I'm sure the racing industry will be happy case wise.

I don't think he will go off at 20-1, way too much "Joe Public" betting.

Mine that Bird will single digit odds at best in the Preakness. Several reasons-- Preakness is 14 horse field not 20, most of the Derby horses that were also rans skip the Preakness, and the group of horses that skipped the Derby and will run in the Preakness are not an impressive group. Finally and most importantly, he was impressive at Churchill.

Papa Clem and Pioneer of the Nile seem like the likely favorites, Mine that Bird will be 3rd or 4th choice.

I am not sure if it is a fair comparison or not, but leading up to the Preakness in '05, Giacomo was around 6-1. Both horses left the gates at Churchill around the same number.

If he is entered, Hull (the Derby Trial winner) will have a very nice shot at the Preakness.

Is Quality Road being considered for the Preakness or is he going to be held out longer?
