Dixie 7 CovCath 5

 

Congrats to Dixie on a great game. I will let NKU post his thoughts on the game since his team won. Again Congrats to Dixie on a very fine game played at Dixie.

Wow! Who pitched for CCH??

Too many balls that didn't fall for CovCath along with a rough inning from Klein. Take out the walks and HBP's in the 4th, CCH wins the game.

 

Then again you can say that for every game....

 

 

Krumme came in and did a nice job after Klein got out of control. CovCath had too many chances to win this game and there's nothing you can do about hitting rockets right at people. This one doesn't bother me too much though. Nice win for Dixie.

 

 

(By the way Luke's HR was a bomb.)

How long did Shumate last?

Just got back in from the game. Cov Cath got things started right away in the first with a 1 out double by Siemer who later scored on what should have been the third out to short by Isler. The ball went through Stegner's legs and into left field though and Cov Cath was up 1-0. Shumate (Cov Cath's SP) shut Dixie down 1-2-3 in the bottom half. Cov Cath followed suit in the top of the second. In the bottom of the second Dixie knotted the score at 1 on a passed ball to score Lubrano who reached with a single and advanced to third on a double by Stansberry.

 

In the top of the third, Maile hit an absolute bomb to put Cov Cath up 2-1 with one out. Burney (Dixie's SP) retired the next two to keep it within reach. Shumate once again shut Dixie down in the bottom half. Top of the fourth, Cov Cath took a 3-1 lead on an RBI single by Nutini to score Holucher who reached on a no out throwing error by Stegner.

 

The bottom of the fourth is when Dixie went on top and stayed there. Lessley lead off with a single and then stole second. In the process of Lessley stealing third, Fischesser hit a ball to Darner at third who IMO was distracted by the runner and made a throw that pulled Isler off the bag at first to put runners at the corners with no outs. Lubrano followed with a walk to load the bases. Stansberry then hit an RBI single to score Lessley. 3-2 CCH. At that point Coach Krumps made the pitching from Shumate to Klein. Klein then walked Chamberlain to force a run in. 3-3. After getting Stegner to fly out to center Bohn followed with an RBI single. 4-3 DH. Klein then had more control issues as he hit Klei to force another run in. 5-3 DH. Popham was then hit with a pitch to force yet another run home. 6-3 DH. Coach Krumps then made another pitching change to Krummer. Lessley followed with a FC in which Darner went to home to cut down Bohn. Krumme then walked Gross to force Dixie 7th and final run home. 7-3 DH. Lubrano grounded out 5-3 to end the inning.

 

Cov Cath scored in the top of 5 on an RBI single by Holucher to score Isler who had doubled. 7-4 DH. The blue Colonels scored again in the top of the 6th on a 1 out HR by Nutini. 7-5 DH.

 

Cov Cath looked like they were going to possibly send us to extras if not take a lead when Holucher singled with one out. Lafever then walked and Coach Maxwell then brought in Chamberlain to close out the game. Chamblerlain started off by hitting Eggemeyer to load the bases. He then got Schlagbaum to pop out to the catcher and Nutini to pop up to second base to end the game.

If either two of these young men pitch; the game would have only lasted 5 innings. This is why Coach Krumps is hands down the best coach in the 9th region. Starting a sophomore in the Colonel Classic will provide our boys of blue with countlesss pitches of experience. Excellent job Adam Shumate. Congrats ton Coach Maxwell on number 501 as well.

CC only scored 5 runs today. So, how do they win in 5 innings today with Ice or Nut pitching? Let's simply give credit to Dixie for winning the game. This is a perfect example of "the better team does not always win". It happens in baseball a lot. Congrats to Dixie.

If thats your only excuse then you dont have much to say. Dixie threw their number 5 pitcher in the rotation and CCH simply couldnt hit him. If CCH loses because they walked many runs what will they do when that happens in region? Complain that they should of won but they didnt because of their pitching? Thats a sad excuse. Who is to say that the batters that were walked or hit wouldn't have gotten singles or doubles? You can't assume those guys would have gotten out.
