The biggest example of this we've had as I stated in an earlier post came from everyone's savior...Ricky P! Jonathan Davis and Rod Rhodes. There are no arguments to the contrary. These two were pushed out the door and not even quietly. This is a business and anyone is naive to think it isnt.

Listen the "everybody else is doing it" philopsophy I try to "uninstill" with my teenage kids so I really hate that argument. Yes it is a business however I also tried to make it clear I do not condone that part of the business. The fact that posters try to justify this with the everybody does it and look at this example still does not make it right. There are schools that rise above this and there are schools that justify this. I do not like it and will continue to rail against it.

Part of this also is (I believe) the immediate Coming of Coach Cal and the time spent trying to figure out how to open up scholarships by people on here as well as others. I mean it would be better if a player leaves (on his own accord and for reasons that he does not fit in the new system and chooses to go) and then scholarships open up. In this scenario what is being promoted is get a guy to commit then figure out who has to give up a scholly for him to get in. That is wrong.

You get payed to win basketball games. Ask BCG what happens if you dont win at Kentucky. I think this will just happen for this one year and it will be over. We talk about lack of players and when a coach wants to added the best of the best we cry about someone that never has touched the floor. Cal is doing a great job and if you need to let them go let them go. It happens all the time in life. Look at all the people that does not have a job. Sad to watch them kids leave but its not the end of life for them.

Transfers happen......Players being forced and persuaded out is a different story. And not being asked to leave due to academic and/or personal issues. Rather just because they are not good enough when they were good enough the prior year. Spin it any way you want it still boils down to a bad perception.

 

Don't forget that the player has to SIT a year and cannot transfer and pick up right away at another D1 school.

You just basically answered your whole problem with this in your own post. I mean think about it, if we don't get anymore recruits. Then these guys probably will still be here and have a chance to maybe play a little still. If we get a few more of these guys, those guys like Stewart and Harrellson will also know that they wont EVER see the floor with the new guys here. So they probably would most likely leave on their own like we will be seeing.

You do realize that academic schlarships can be taken away after a year if you don't do as well. So why can they not do that in sports, when might be someone who would deserve that schlorship even more?

I really hope Harrellson @ 6'-9" fits into the system. He will not be a starter and will only get limited minutes. You have to have these kind of players on a team to make it balance out. If nothing else he will get a lot of practice on defense and that may be needed down the road from time to time. If I am not mistaken Josh is supposed to be a pretty good outside shooter. Who would not want a player at 6'9" who can spot up and shoot the three. I don't think we really got to see enough of Josh under the BCG system. I am one who hopes he does well as a Cat and stays.

 

I don't think he would get any minutes. He probably would be one of the guys people cheer for at the end of games when players come in during blow outs. He has people like Patterson, Cousins, Orton, Pilgram, and Stevenson all in front of him. He would not see the floor next year on this team. He would be better off leaving if he wants to actually play basketball. I mean if he stayed I would root for him, but he would be better off leaving IMO.

I am well aware of the one year rule. However......you tell me one recruit that comes in and is told well we might pull this after one year.................. The idea is to be there for the duration. You know that as well as I do.
