January 26, 201115 yr I don't know what I was thinking. To me Led Zeppelin is the best band of all-time and I'll never believe otherwise. Love Sabbath, but I'd take Zeppelin. Red Hot Chili Peppers are underrated, I think they're a genre all to themselves. Clapton is one of my all-time favorites. Hendrix could make the guitar do things no one else ever thought of. For best musician currently I'm taking Zakk Wylde. Man can play any instrument, and is the only current guy on the guitar that I think can measure up to the guys of the old days. Dave Grohl would be my 1A. If he were half the guitarist that Wylde is I would definitely have him at #1 all by himself. Good to see you (for the most part - on the bolded, thank goodness) come to your senses.
January 26, 201115 yr The Beatles are the greatest band of all time. Started out with silly love songs that worked, later changed their style and were trend setters until their breakup. Great solo careers as well.

January 26, 201115 yr Hmmmm this should be fun. IMO here are some of the greatest musicians, or people who I think have incredible musical talents. To start off I am going to reiterate a few some have already said. I agree with GT and the others who said Jack White, he really is an amazing talent, and his effects on the guitar are right up there with Tom Morello as far as being considered the best. Anytime you can have a two person band, and the other mate be your ex wife on drums, you got to be pretty good. The next guy I have a lot of respect for that gladly I saw mentioned was Les Claypool. Musically he is a genius in my book. His cartoon character lyrics and neo psychedelic funk style might not appeal to most, but as a bassist he is top dog IMO. I think the freedom he shows as a soloist and with Primus just goes to show that he can pretty much make a song about anything he wants (as far as content, lyrically, etc.) and it still be amazing. Claypool is one of the guys who make music and not songs, and that is something that goes a long way in determing musicians I really celebrate. Big difference in making music and making songs IMO. I also agree with those who said Dave Grohl. Whether you like Nirvana or FF, you have to admit the guys a musician. I mean guy killed it on the skins for Nirvana, which In my book is one of the greatest bands of all time, then goes out and fronts a band like the Foo Fighters as a guitarist and lead vocalist. Now that is a musician. Sticking along the same lines, what would the 90's-now have been without Kurt Cobain? Kurt Cobain, now that is a musician. Saw the Beatles mentioned, and yes I have to agree. For most of my life I tried to find ways to hate on the Beatles, but eventually it is hard to argue their significance to the biz. Lennon and McCartney were uber talented as song writers and album producers. If there is still people out there who hate on the Beatles, go listen to everything after they got on drugs and cross out all the stuff before and it should change your opinion. Bob Dylan. Yes! Love Bob Dylan, he is what music is all about IMO. From the heart and from the soul. Sublime has already been mentioned so I cannot take that one, but will back whoever up on the Sublime bandwagon. This is all due mostly to Bradley Nowell though who without question was Sublime. You take away Eric and Bud, and just have Bradley playing acoustic and singing and you still have a musical experience. Same cannot be said if you leave the other two and take out Brad. Like a lot of my favorite artists, what made Brad so special was he felt everything he made music about. It came from within, wasn't fabricated in a studio or at a label meeting. That is the biggest thing missing in music today, people doing it because they love it and people making music they want to make. Okay, thats all of the artists I think I saw in which didn't want to mention twice, if I include someone one of you guys already included then my bad I must have looked over it. To me you cannot have a best musician list without Neil Young. IMO everyone in the music biz can learn something from Neil Young. He is what it is all about IMO. Also, Bob Marley has to be mentioned. Not only did he bring his music to the masses, but his culture and beliefs as well. Blind Melon, most notabley Shannon Hoon has to be included. Hoon was another brilliant song writer and front man from the 90's who died way before his time. Jerry Cantrell, Alice In Chains. As much as I love Layne Staley as a front man and lyricist, Cantrell was the brains behind one of the greatest bands of all time. His dual harmonization with Layne is some of the most beautiful singing you will here in rock, IMO. As far as guitarists go, have to include Zakk Wylde Dimebag Darrell Jimmy Page Toni Iomhi Eddie V Clapton David Gilmour and Roger Waters need to be mentioned for their contributions to Pink Floyd. Then to round it out, Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison. Both guys who were transcendent, and still have an impact today. On the Rap/Hip Hop side of things, here are a couple guys I have to include. Dr. Dre from a producing standpoint. Lets face it, was the driving force of NWA, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, and Eminem. You take Dre out of the mix with those guys, they are no where near what they are today. Lyrically, Eminem has to be on the list. His content put the rap game on its head. Flow wise, Biggie had the sickest flow of anyone who has ever picked up a mic. I am a huge Pac fan, and because of which I hate on B.I.G. quite a bit, but there is no arguing the way he flowed. 2pac has to be mentioned. Was a musical genius and poured his heart and soul into his music. Very passionate. Then you have the Jigga Man, Hova, otherwise known as Jay-Z, aka the best rapper alive. Even though hes selling out and becoming a commercial giant, Lil Wayne's word play makes him an artist that will stand the test of time. And a couple of new artists in hip hop who IMO are great at what they do, Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller. Wiz is just now breaking into the mainstream and that may be a bad thing. Seems as if once most in the hip hop industry break through, they start to suck. Hopefully this doesn't happen with Wiz. He is the hottest guy in hip hop right now bar none IMO. If you don't think so then go check out his Kush and Orange Juice mixtape or a couple of his other mixtapes. If you ever want to see how a rapper stacks up, check out the mixtapes, if their mixtapes are garbage or they don't put out mixtapes, then more than likely they are just fabricated in the studio. However, if you can kill it on a mixtape then you have real talent. As far as Mac Miller, he is another rapper under the same label as Wiz, and IMO is on the verge of blowing up. He is still in the underground right now, but his rhymes are sick. Don't believe me, then go check out his K.I.D.S. mixtape or "The High Life." IMO he is what Hip Hop is all about, and what Hip Hop should be all about.
