January 28, 201115 yr Guitar:No Tony Iommi? :thumb: I know people can look at anyones list and question leaving certain people out. BUT, in terms if being a great musician, Iommi has to be included with the guitarists without a doubt. I don't care if you don't like Black Sabbath, as a music fan you must respect Iommi. His accident and subsequent change in technique virtually created what we now know as heavy metal. Even with all the de-tuning you can still tell how blues influenced Iommi is, very bluesy and can put together some amazing riffs. TI is a real game changer IMO, his contributions to music are legendary.
January 28, 201115 yr I am going from back in my day in the 70's to the present in no certain order, I cannot name just one but will highlight my very favortes. As always I am sure I will forget some. I am a huge country music fan but most of those are idividual artist, and are not bands. Lynyrd Skynyrd, by far the best :ylsuper: Allman Brothers Marshall Tucker Band Grand Funk Railroad Doobie Brothers Three Dog Night Aeorosmith Steppenwolf Steve Miller Band Bruce Spingsteen and the East Street Band Bob Seager Band Beach Boys Beatles Zac Brown Band Alabama Jack White Brad Paisley, can flat out play a guitar. I decided to limit myself to three of each category,otherwise,as the Professor would be glad to tell you,I would have been on here all night. Iommi is one of my favorites and would have rounded out my top 5 along with Satriani. There are few guitarists out there that can say that they invented a genre of music and Iommi is the father of heavy metal.

January 29, 201115 yr ^ Don't let me sway your opinion at all, like I said I understand everybody has different views on music and musicians I just like to stir things up. I am a big Doors homer though so Manzarek will always get plenty of love in my book. Im not a fan of the keyboard/piano in rock music but give me Manzarek and Billy Powell any day of the week and I can more than make an exception.

The cool thing about Manzarek that the common fan doesn't realize is that he also supplied the bass lines in all of the Doors music. Since there was no actual bassist, Manzarek doubled duties and provided all bass lines and then whatever keyboarding he did on the song. If you notice in any live recordings or anything showing Ray playing with the Doors his keyboard will normally always have an upper section and a lower section. The upper is normally where he would do the bass and the lower where he did the keyboarding.
January 31, 201115 yr Getting back to Iommi,the handicap he has had to overcome in order to play should be an inspiration to anyone. Losing the tips of two fingers on his fretting hand (right) and cominmg up with the leather covered tips on his own proves that if you want something bad enough,you can achieve it.

The day Buckethead is considered the greatest guitarist of all time is the day I shoot myself in the head. On a side note, I love my life and I would never want it taken away from me, especially on my own accord, but that is something that would cause me to take action.

Slash, Santana, Clapton among others think he is pretty good...

And thats just saying the best right now, best ever, then in no way could he even be in the same realm as somebody like Jimi. I would think it would be a safe bet that Slash would say he thinks hes good as a sarcastic comment or jab towards Axl being Buckethead is one of the million of guys Axl has tried to replace Slash with. He is without question the biggest name Axl has tried to slot into the Guns lineup after the departure of Slash. I honestly doubt Slash thinks he is anywhere close to being one of the greatest of all time. Which he shouldnt because Slash IMO is better than Buckethead, but then again thats just me. I also have a hard time believing Clapton honestly feels he is the best ever, I mean when you say best ever, that is a strong statement, especially considering who you are talking about. I mean Buckethead may be for all anyone knows, but IMO he is no where close, regardless of what anybody says. You put Zakk Wylde and Buckethead in a room right now and let them go lick for lick and Zakk embarrasses Buckethead, makes him glad he doesn't show his face.
