Janish is not the shortstop of the future for the Reds. :thumb::thumb: As I've said before, putting Janisch at SS full-time makes about as much sense as playing Juan Castro every day.

If Gonzo were to get hurt I would bet the farm that Hairston Jr. would get the majority of starts at SS over Janish.
April 21, 200917 yr Janish is a get-away-day shortstop, and there is nothing wrong with that. Gonzo missed a year of baseball. It's going to take him some time to get his game back, assuming that he ever does get it back. He is a gold glove caliber ss though, and has earned the right to be given a chance to play.

He has a rifle for an arm, he's had a successful path thus far, and he's just a baseball guy. He was also a 5th round draft pick. Janish is hitting .400. Gonzo is hitting under .100. It's early in the season, but you've got to go with the hot hand.

April 21, 200917 yr For what reason? I've never been a Gonzalex fan. I thought we overpaid when we signed him. He ended up having a career year the last season he played, and it turned out to be a decent signing. But, you simply cannot expect him to duplicate those numbers. Add that to the fact that he had major knee surgery, and you've got another negative factor. He missed an entire season due to knee surgery. He may or may not be fully healthy. I don't feel comfortable relying on him to produce, nor remain healthy, for an entire season. He's a career .247 hitter, with an OBP% under .300. He's 32. He's past his prime. His defense is not what it once used to be, but he is still very good defensively. I will give him that.

April 21, 200917 yr [/b] No different than last year. Care to venture how many games last years team scored 3 or less runs? And how many of those games they lost. Well so far they're winning those games this year. There's the difference I agree, but they won't win a majority of the games where they score 3 runs or less. They need to be able to score 5 runs or more a lot more than they have so far. If they have one regular hit .270+ and don't hit many HR's that won't happen.
