This is already the 4th comeback win for the Reds, pretty impressive for this team.

4-2 on this NL Central road trip...

It really doesn't feel like they won that series at all.

That is because they haven't. They play a 4th game Monday night against the Astros.

I keep harping on the lack of a right-handed power hitter to put in the middle of the lineup but I guess I overlooked the fact that they have that guy. Micah Owings is that guy

Seriously though, what position did he play in high school/college? Surely there is a way to get his bat in the lineup.

:ohbrother: Dohhhh

Bailed out by Hernandez and Owings nobody bet on that this weekend.

Owings was a two-way star at Tulane. I think he played both DH and 1B in college.

There are some ways to work him into the lineup, but that would require Dusty to be creative and innovative. If it doesn't fit into old-school conventional wisdom, Dusty won't do it, and two-way players don't fit that mold.

Is it conventional wisdom to use a SP as your primary RH bat off the bench???

No, however it isn't conventional that your best RH bat off your bench is a pitcher either.

Well first-base is out, Votto isn't sitting, nor should he. However, if this guy can really rake the way he has shown I don't see how they can keep his bat out of the lineup.

If it is one of those things where if he were a "regular" that pitchers would figure him out that is a different issue, but I'm not so sure that is the case.

In this case, it's more desperation.

Owings appears to be a good enough athlete that he could handle LF on an occasional basis. Certainly, he could DH when the Reds are on the road in interlague play.

I think there's a very good possibility we could see Owings as the DH in AL parks. Do you risk playing your #5 pitcher in the field though?

The way Rosales is tearing it up in AAA, I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see Jocketty pull an early season trade if EE doesn't get it going.
