Bengals sign Tank Johnson

That would be a terrible pick IMO.

They have to go for Monroe from Virginia. Smith has no heart or dedication.

Based on what?

Based on what?

Didn't he get suspended for a bowl game? Didn't he come into the combine overweight? Didn't he leave the combine without telling anybody, since he wasn't doing that well there?

I think that is something to base on him not having heart or dedication. He let his team down for the bowl game, he was not dedicated enough to stay in shape during the offseason, and didn't have the heart to stick through the critiscm he was getting at the combine.

Not to mention some people are starting to wonder if he will even be a good tackle in the NFL, and might be more suited for playing guard. So for someone who could be a guard, you don't draft that high.

I think the whole bowl game suspension somewhat snowballed on him.

I agree that leaving the combine is a negative, but an NFL team should conduct a thorough enough investigation (and interview) to determine why he left, and what he was thinking.

I do not hold the bowl game suspension against him. Poor decision making on his part, but not a problem, IMO. It was due to illegal contact with an agent - it's not like it was some type of criminal behavior.

Its not only that, but him letting himself get out of shape is another thing to be worried about. I think most scouts already agree that he is definitely not a left tackle in the NFL, would be to slow for the speed rushers. So would have to be a right tackle, and some people even say he might be more of a guard. Using the 6 pick on someone like that is not that good IMO...He reminds me a lot of Learnard Davis the tackle the Bengals wanted in 2002 I think, when the Bengals got Justin Smith instead because someone drafted Davis before the Bengals did. He was a really really BIG guy, and did great in college, but once he got to college he was to slow to play tackle. He has made a pretty good guard in his career now though. If one of the top two tackles are not there, then they should move down if they can. If they can't then I think they be much better off reaching for a guy like Ray Magualga, instead of reaching for a guy like Smith.

Agreed, but everything is such a glaring need, I don't know if reaching for anybody is justifiable, especially not Smith or Maluga.

Just a few short months ago he was widely considered one of the top tackles in the draft and a can't miss prospect.

That would be large number now, FYI.

Well I guess if you keep hiring criminals, that will change...

Andre is pretty soft.
