Are We (U.S.) a "Christian Nation?"

Paine's voice was the one of herald and whose pamphlet saved the morale of the revolution when it was needed most.

Patrick Henry was Governor I believe in Virginia during the time you mentioned and likewise placed his head in the noose early for American liberty.

After the Revolution, Henry again served as governor of Virginia from 1784 to 1786, but declined to attend the Constitutional Convention of 1787 saying that he "smelt a rat in Philadelphia, tending toward the monarchy." An ardent supporter of state rights, Henry was an outspoken critic of the United States Constitution and led the Virginia opposition to its ratification arguing that it gave the federal government too much power and that the untested office of the presidency could devolve into a monarch. As a leading Antifederalist, he was instrumental in forcing the adoption of the Bill of Rights to amend the new Constitution and became a leading opponent of James Madison. President George Washington offered him the post of Secretary of State in 1795, which he declined out of opposition to Washington's Federalist policies.

It's kind of like saying, "Well Stephen F. Austin had nothing to do with the formation of the Texas Republic because he was afterall, locked up in a Mexican prison during the Revolution." Anyone knows his influence was on their Struggle and Constitution without him. :thumb:

Truth is that Jefferson, Adams and Franklin were present for the Declaration's drafting, but not Madison or Washington. By the time of the Constiutional Conventions Jefferson was not present and neither was John Adams. The "Founding Fathers" were an amalgamation of differing thoughts, ideas and personalities that ranged prior to the Revolution and post Constitutional periods. To limit them to the framers of a Declaration and the Constitution is to not see the powerful influences surrounding both events.

No idea if any of that is true, because I don't trust wikipedia. But I will say either way they weren't involved in writing the constitution so you can't say there views were the founders intent because they weren't the founders. If they didn't help write it then their view gets no credit with me when trying to discover their intent.

The Church Of Christ (strict ones) are Christians ( I guess) and they do not believe in Easter and Christmas. They say there is no scripture telling us to celebrate these two very Christian days. :idunno:

I think you missed my point completly... Abortions are going to happen regaurdless of the leagality, just ask countries like Bulgaria and Iran. All I'm saying is im not worried about the leagality of abortion, I want the best solution that will realistically save lives. I personally would rather have governmen regulated abrotions than unsafe abortions in a back ally.

You completly missed the boat on the logic portion. A. Homeless people in America do starve to death every day. B. Your absolutly right there is argument about policy dealing with the poor and it doenst mean someone is against poverty but have you honestly met a person who is pro-abortion, meaning they think abortion is a positive circumstance?

You need to read the thread Abortion Pride Movement.

So if I say that "Acemona is Commando's and Skinpig's god." that makes it so??

WOW

Alinski speaks in hyperbole as the preacher. Do you guys take everything you hear or see on the internet as truth??

Many of the citizens that voted against BHO are made up of conservatives democrats and republicans that lean to the right (so to speak) and still believe in capitalism and fiscal responsibility. His words and actions show us no support. Maybe I shouldn't say "no" support...I'm sure someone on this board will come up with a crumb somewhere.
Nothing I've seen from the "right leaners" makes me think they believe in capitalism or fiscal responsibility.

No, I don't believe every thing I read and see on the web but Obama has never denied his close association with Alinski..

We are not a Christian nation, we are a secular nation for good reason. Couldn't you imagine all the fighting if Christianity was declared our national religion? Baptist, Catholics, Methodist, etc all trying to get their denomination to be the "offiical" religion. I fail to understand the uproar over our President making a factual statement that is in the Constitution. We are not a Christian nation we are a secular nation that happens to have many Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Pagans, etc, etc, etc.

Easter is only mentioned once in the book of Acts (I believe chapter 12 verse 4, don't hold me to that), just pointing that out

Is it called easter? And, does it talk about children hunting eggs? :D

In seriousness, it is called easter!

Actually, it's only called easter in the King James Version. Other versions correctly translate it as Passover...

The word translated "Easter" in the KJV is the greek word "pascha". "Pascha" was derived from the Hebrew word for Passover, "pesach". The word in Acts 12:4 should be translated Passover.

My "WOW!" was not a "I believe the Preacher" wow. It was a "Scary Sermon" wow.

Again...WOW!

Sorry, quoted the wrong post.
