April 6, 200917 yr You're right. It was a one-year deal because of an open scholarship and Williams wanted to play here. He had the opportunity at other schools, but it was widely reported that he was only guaranteed a scholarship last season. Did Williams actually play in any games? If not, why?
April 6, 200917 yr Let's just say I heard an 18 is still a ways away, and if he hits an 18 you can bet the red flags will go up in a hurry... You would think his parents or someone would try to get some help for him to try and get his score up. There are MANY services available to the average student to help improve their scores on the ACT, SAT, you name it. My wife and I hired a professional tutor to assist our son in the English and Reading sections of his ACT (as that was his two weakest subjects). Because of this, he was able to improve his score and was able to get a 30 on his ACT. I'm not saying Bledsoe could get a 30 but he and his parents need to use the resources available to them to help improve their scores. They don't have to go out and hire a tutor but there are many other resources available to them and alot of them are free!
April 6, 200917 yr Everyone is only guaranteed a scholarship for one year. He is still a member of the team. I know that, but that's not the way the situation in this case went. When Gillispie gave Patterson a scholarship offer, he didn't just say: "Patrick, this offer is only for one season of basketball. After that, we'll decide." And that's exactly what was said to Williams. Yes, he's still practicing with the team because the semester hasn't ended. Even Carter is still practicing and he will graduate. Don't let the fact that they're practicing with the team fool you.

April 6, 200917 yr UK will be very young after next year if this were to happen. Wall, Cousins, Meeks and Patterson would all leave for the draft. Stevenson and Harris graduate. This team will have great success next year propelling them to an elite recruiting class in 10' imo. So imo the following year is something we shouldn't bring up especially since we don't know what kind of class Calipari is going to bring in 10' or for that matter this year! If he can bring one in like he did at Memphis this year then we're back to the old days of the late 90's imo. But only time will tell. I'm just pumped about the possibilities!:ylsuper:

And that's exactly what was said to Williams. That is my impression as well. Williams took a scholarship that would have otherwise been unused last year (or given to a walkon). That doesn't mean he'll be gone, but if he stays, he'll be a walk on. I forget which interview it was but Cal said there are no scholarship issues at this point. If Williams was going to take one next year, UK would be one short as of today (only Carter going off scholarship, Orton and Hood coming on).

April 6, 200917 yr Just stated that we would be very young the following year, nothing more and nothing less... Yeah we definitely would be very young. It also seems like were counting on a lot of freshman to be big contributers next year. Hopefully they'll step up and help take us to Indianapolis!
April 6, 200917 yr I just question a lot about the non-basketball stuff with Wall, for example he's a fifth year senior in high school....are you kidding me? Isn't John Wall playing at a prep school? He is probabbly there to get better at basketball..
April 6, 200917 yr Isn't John Wall playing at a prep school? He is probabbly there to get better at basketball.. Word is he did 9th grade twice.
April 6, 200917 yr Author I'm reading a lot of speculation, but has anyone heard rumblings about who will NOT be back next year? Any current players looking elsewhere or is that TBD?
April 6, 200917 yr IDEALY the UK scholarship situation would work out like this. Meeks, Patterson, Stevenson, Galloway, Miller, Orton, Hood, Wall, Cousins, Harris, Stewart, Pilgram, Henry. I think that we will end up with Cousins, Hood, and Orton as freshmen, and quite possible Wall, if the situation with his mom works out (she is in my prayers, hate to see any person suffer). Henry is probably not coming, but I have no clue about Stephenson.
April 6, 200917 yr These things work themselves out usually! Porters decision will be a big one for him and the future of this team.
April 6, 200917 yr UK will be very young after next year if this were to happen. Wall, Cousins, Meeks and Patterson would all leave for the draft. Stevenson and Harris graduate. This is Coach Cal's specialty. This is the college game now and nobody is better at this than Calipari. He will just reload after next season.
