The 13 Scholarships for 09-10

Featured Replies

Like many others, I'm pumped about the Calipari hire. He's the guy I wanted this time around, and I'm actually a bit shocked we got him. He brings a lot to the table. The upcoming season could be (emphasis on could be) a really, really big turnaround. I'm not saying we're a definite Final Four, but we have that potential if Cal brings some of his recruits.

Having said that, making room for everyone could be difficult. So I was wondering what everyone is thinking about the scholarship situation. I'll give you my prediction, and then you can make yours, if you so choose.

1. Meeks

2. Patterson

3. Miller

4. Harris

5. Stevenson

6. Liggins

7. Stewart

8. Galloway

9. Pilgrim

10. Orton

11. Hood

12. Cousins

13. Wall

I don't think Porter's coming back, with his wife being pregnant and all. I really like that kid, and wish him the best, but he'll do nothing but grab bench all year if he does come back.

I think Harrellson is finished. He just doesn't fit in this system. Same with Williams, who most acknowledge would have been gone anyway. Vilarino has reopened recruiting, so that's pretty much a given that he's gone.

I think Cousins, if qualified, comes. And I think Wall does the same. I also think the starting 5 looks like this:

PG. Wall (Liggins & Galloway as backups)

SG. Meeks (Hood a backup)

C. Cousins (Orton & Pilgrim as backups)

PF. Patterson (Stevenson & Pilgrim as backups)

SF. Miller (Harris, Galloway, & Stewart as backups)

If it would work out this way (and it probably won't since I predicted it to), we could be very, very strong next year.

You're right, that would be a very impressive team.

Harris and Stewart may have to pack a lunch also as others may be coming.

I figured Harris and Stewart will be next in line to go. Patterson might also go to draft. Another possibility would be for an in-state player to pay their own way for a season at least.

Stewart is next in line, I think. I thought I saw somewhere that the seniors returning are welcome to stay, if they choose. But no one else is assured of anything.

I am personally concerned about Harris and his concussion issues. It didn't look like he got hit in the head at all when he sustained a mild concussion against Notre Dame. Concussions can be serious health problems especially repeated ones, we are talking about the brain you know. The more you get...the less contact you need to get one.

Isn't Williams a walk-on?

I think Stewart would probably be pretty good in Cal's system.

Theoretically, it is a good fit for Stewart.

That's a lot of talent, but it's tough for a guy to come in and do that well his first year with the team and coach getting used to each other and all that. I wouldn't expect too much from them next year.

No.

What would Harrelson's status be if he transferred? He has already sat through one season because he transferred to KY. Would he have to step down a level to be able to ever play again?

I think Liggins will leave because of grades, and that gives us one more to use on either Porter staying, I do not know his story, or Xavier Henry.

He didnt set a year. He came straight from JUCO.

The way I could see things happening. Or at least I hope so, the only thing I would like to see happen is Xavier Henry coming instead of Nolan Dennis, but I would be super pleased with either one. I also feel Pilgrim will win the last scholly spot being he already had to sit out one year, and is the most athletic player left outside of AJ Stewart. Could be a tossup between him and Stewart but if all these incoming freshman follow Cal, then I expect the roster to look like this scholarship wise.
