March 27, 200917 yr He won one NIT title. So he won a title every 8 years and basically put UK basketball on the map. Plus, his best team didn't allowed to play in the tournament because Hagen and Ramsey were not eligable. Please don't compare Tubby to Rupp.
March 27, 200917 yr Yes, but he won those four titles in his final 26 years which is one every 6.5 years. Also made six Final Fours in his final 30 years, which is one every five years. Tubby went made one Final Four in 10 years. :deadhorse: Didn't Rupp have to win two fewer games to get to a FF in those days? UK's Tubby years are only a couple bounces away from being at least as legendary as Pitino's.

Fewer tournament games, but more games during the season or there was no invitation. 10 loss teams did not get to the Big Dance when they took fewer teams.

Yeah, but it was easy to roll through the SEC in those days, so Rupp didn't really have to test his team too often until the NCAA tourney. That's why he always scheduled the NY trips, if I recall correctly.

Should have been easy to roll through the SEC this year, but not with the players we have (Tubby recruits) and the coach we had (BCG).
March 27, 200917 yr Should have been easy to roll through the SEC this year, but not with the players we have (Tubby recruits) and the coach we had (BCG). UK had (TWO) of teh top 20 players in America, GT () would have them in the E8 right now...
March 27, 200917 yr Should have been easy to roll through the SEC this year, but not with the players we have (Tubby recruits) and the coach we had (BCG). What would Adolph Rupp have done against the SEC this year with the players he had? I bet they finish at the bottom or somewhere near there. Basketball's changed quite a bit since Rupp was a Head Coach
March 27, 200917 yr We understand that you hate Saul...:deadhorse: Hate is way too strong a word. I just don't think he was UK caliber.
March 27, 200917 yr Hate is way too strong a word. I just don't think he was UK caliber. But he played, And played OK...
March 27, 200917 yr But he played, And played OK... Agreed. He never played as bad as some seem to remember. I'd say he'd be a significant upgrade over what we have playing his position now....
March 27, 200917 yr Didnt Tubby leave for Minnasota or did I imagine that? You always here what a class act Tubby was at Uk (which I agree with until the end) but no one wants to talk about him having the deal made with Minnesota or atleast working on the deal during the season. In my book that was one major classless act by him. Granted the only one I know of while at Uk but a very big one.
