Bad Message from Notre Dame?

Featured Replies

To answer my own question. In 2008, 87% Catholic. The other 13%....are they accepted only if the are pro-life? Are all the Catholic students pro-life? The common application for Notre Dame doesn't ask your stand on abortion. Maybe a more detailed application does? Just throwing some questions out there.

If they are not, they aren't really Catholic either. You don't get to pick and choose.

So you couldn't be Catholic and support the death penalty, right?

As we all know, Obama is an extremist on this issue as has been demonstrated by his actions since he took office.
Obama is only extremist from an extremist point of view.

I don't, but I can see how some view it much differently than abortion.

Is the Church "some?"

Is the Church "some?"

Some is some. Had I meant the church I would have said the church.

Does the Church value the life of a convict less than the life of the unborn?

^ No, they are against both forms of legalized murder.

So a pro-death penalty President would not be welcomed at ND?

Do you think many who have railed against ND in this thread would be on here if it were President Bush(or insert any pro-DP POTUS from either party) who was invited?

Obama is only extremist from an extremist point of view.
Amen ...

I thought that "you don't get to pick and choose"?

You (the general "you") can't have your cake and eat it, too. This hypocritical issue gets old, the premise being that you aren't a truth catholic if you are pro-choice because the church's teachings on the subject are clear. Well, they are clear on the death penalty, too. Show me any church teachings in which one is given the ok to go against the teachings of one, but can't go against the other?

Its poor form to wrap yourself in the cloak of Catholicism when railing against abortion but you turn a blind eye or , worse, rationalize away the death penalty.

When did I say I felt that supporting the death penalty was correct. I said I can see how they can rationally draw a distinction. Whereas those that oppose the death penalty but support abortion in my opinion makes no sense what so ever.

Murder is murder, pure and simple I haven't said anything different.

So President Bush speaking at ND would be a problem?

So a pro-death penalty President would not be welcomed at ND?

I'm sure they would. Seeing how they have no problem with a pro-abortion speaker.

And if you read the thread I haven't made any comments opposing Obama speaking at the commencement. Personally I don't think you turn down the opportunity to have the POTUS speak at graduation. At the same time I have no problem with the bishop voicing his displeasure regarding the decision. I hope the Freedom of Choice Act never sees the light of day.
