Bad Message from Notre Dame?

Oh I wasn't aware you had missed my first two post in this thread..... The man has great academic achievments, your refusal to acknowledge them doesn't lessen them in anyones eyes. The last time I checked Notre Dame was an academic institution and quite a good one at that. So, a man with great academic achievements who is also the POTUS speaking at a quality academic institution makes sense to me sorry it doesn't for you.:idunno:

Actually, I responded to the silly "self-made man" statements. He is about as self-made as the Manchurian Candidate.

Possibly you should read my breakdown of the "attributes" you listed for your president. See post # 72,

Again :deadhorse: because you refuse to acknowledge them doesn't make them invalid. I'm not sure what it says about how you form your opinions that you would dismiss an Ivy league education as an accomplishment. I listed my reasons multiple times you think they are silly about as silly as I find your reasons. :isurrender:

So now we move to questioning other's salvation based on how they vote; something specifically Christ said not to do.

Does this really require clarification??? He spoke against passing judgement on the Salvation of others.

You clearly must not have any idea as to the nature of my posting in P&R, I am not hitting you on moral issues.

I was merely making sure your details were consistent. I do not recall Christ mentioning anything specific regarding voting habits. Nothing more, nothing less.

Wow. Be careful around the edge of that cliff.

And where did I say the bolded?

You have exerted much energy in being a critic of those of us who feel that it is unconscionable that Notre Dame would invite the abortionist, Obama, to speak at its commencement and, even worse, give him an honorary degree.

However, you haven't told us how you feel about it and the reasoning behind why you believe as you do.

If you can, tell us why you believe that we are wrong and use something more substantive than "he is our president and he deserves our respect" because he certainly isn't my president and respect is earned. It isn't a fringe benefit that goes with the job.

If you are an American citizen, he IS your president, whether you like it or not. It's childish to even suggest otherwise.

True but irrelevant. The Church via the Bishop is the one taking a stance. The Church doesn't have "hot buttons" as far as I know. It is against putting people to death. Period.

So, as I said earlier, if you're using the stance of the Church as your justification for opposing the POTUS from speaking you are being hypocritical if you didn't take the same stance when a pro-DP POTUS spoke at ND.

I agree with you that ND should not invite a pro death penalty speaker to speak.

Good grief, is "childish" the best you can do? It is rather dullardly, don't you think?

No, True blue (and gold), he is not my president. He is, unfortunately, the president of the country in which I live, am a citizen of, and pay an unconscionable amount of taxes to support. That doesn't make him my president.

I will show an appropriate amount of respect for the office. As for him, he needs to earn some respect. I see no reason to give him any at this time.

He is not my president. He is an abortionist and may well be a Marxist and a Communist just to name a few of his dubious "attributes". You may acknowledge him but he isn't my president.

For transparency's sake did you get angry with those who said "Bush isn't my president," or did you support them in their own way?

I figured it was their right under the First Amendment to say what they pleased in regard to Bush not being their president. I don't expect those who remain enchanted with Obama to suddenly agree with me. On the other hand, they needn't expect me to recognize as my "leader" one whom I consider to be a serious danger to the republic and to basic Judeo-Christian tenets. One shouldn't compromise in regard to his/her deep-held beliefs. I certainly won't do so.

Fair enough.

If the shoes fits...I guess I could have said infantile or adolescent if you prefer. Sometimes simplicity is best.

That is one of the areas in which you are wrong. The indiscriminate killing of the most vulnerable of our human species is neither "childish'", "infantile", nor "adolescent". It shows a complete lack of consideration for human life. It is vulgar. It is cruel, indefensible, unconscionable, and sinful (if I may use the term).

One who describes opposition to this barbaric exercise as you have done displays either a lack of knowledge or a lack of decency in regard to our most vulnerable.

Obama was expected to be and has proven to be a threat to all of our preborn. His record, both in Illinois and in Washington, is radically anti-life. I am not naive enough to support him because he is an ultra-smooth reader of speeches prepared by others. Those who are firm and informed in their beliefs aren't fooled by charisma and a toothy grin. One can smile as he thrusts a knife in your back.

Either Notre Dame (Our Lady) is a Roman Catholic institution or it isn't a Roman Catholic institution. If it is the former, the invitation is a direct assault on the Church and its consistent and long-held beliefs. If it is the latter, then it is like any of our other schools of dubious standards and, if that is the case, who cares what it does? Which one is Notre Dame? I would suggest that the Roman Catholic Church and the Congregation of Holy Cross take a good look at Fr. Jenkins and the others responsible for this invitation.

I would add that it should not be negotiable to anyone who calls themselves Christians.

And where did I say the bolded?

Thats how I interpreted it, if I'm incorrect with that interpretation please accept my apologies.

My comments that you quoted were not about abortion, but twist it as you choose.
