March 28, 200917 yr Yes, because when it comes to that I beleive you "sleep in the bed you make". A fetus is the most innocent thing on earth. But let's make sure the tax payers a burdened with those hefty life sentence so wack job killers and rape artist can breath. Your earlier post was all about the Church. As far as I know, the Church is prolife in all areas, not just when it comes to a woman's right to choose.
March 29, 200917 yr Your earlier post was all about the Church. As far as I know, the Church is prolife in all areas, not just when it comes to a woman's right to choose. The Bible also says something to the effect of "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth."
March 29, 200917 yr The Bible also says something to the effect of "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth." I thought that we were talking about the Church and its positions. They are very clear here.
March 29, 200917 yr It seems to me that some people would be surprised to learn that the Catholic Church has in the past and still does today maintain that a state has the right to put people to death to maintain order and protect society. The Church does maintain that certain criteria be met. For example, the penalty must fit the crime. Also, the Church's interpretation of the criteria is relatively strict. However, it would be wrong to say that the Church is categorically against the death penalty. Edited March 29, 200917 yr by shooter
March 29, 200917 yr Author I see no need for further explanation from any of us who find Notre Dame's invitation to be abominable. Notre Dame is an "official" representative of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church is unwavering in its support for the sanctity of human life. Abortion is abhorred by the Church and to say it considers the active or passive involvement in an abortion to be sinful is an understatement. Obama is an abortionist. While he does not directly wield the knife to kill the baby, he, by the wielding of a pen, expands the parameters of the industry of abortion, much government funded, so as to guarantee the deaths of thousands more of the innocents. He is an abortionist. If this life is meaningful, there must be absolutes. The Catholic Church, which is the foundation of Notre Dame, has defended the absolute of sanctity of life for nearly two thousand years. For Notre Dame to compromise on this Tenet of the Faith is not acceptable. This argument may seem too rigid to you who are not Catholic or who adher to no religion, to a more "liberal" or "modern" religion, or to one of our newer groups who have no real standard of belief. However, it is not negotiable for Catholics. As an earlier poster said so well, "If a Catholic supports abortion rights, he is really not a Catholic." If one cannot accept it, one should move on. There are plenty of other churches out there- like Obama's church (assuming he has one)- in which you can rest your feet.
March 29, 200917 yr I thought that we were talking about the Church and its positions. They are very clear here. So is the Bible and Obama's position on everything anti-Catholic.

March 29, 200917 yr So is the Bible and Obama's position on everything anti-Catholic. Can you clarify? Are you saying that Obama's positions on everything is anti-Catholic? Also, I have no problem with those that don't feel that having someone that is pro-choice speak at Notre Dame is wrong. I do have a problem when there is double talk in allowing other speakers, who also have views that go against the Catholic Church. Abortion is not the only issue that there is.
March 29, 200917 yr Author I thought that you said that you weren't Catholic? I'm not. I am just a struggling Christian seeking my way. I don't belong to any church. I don't completely agree with all tenets of any group. Anyway, all of this is between each person and God. However, I feel much more at home (belief-wise) in the Catholic Church than in any other. Although I am not a Catholic, a Protestant, or whatever, I believe I have a good knowledge of most all Christian groups. After careful reflection, I attend a Catholic Church. But, I am not a Catholic. In the end, we each have to answer for ourselves. We won't be able to ride a Catholic, Baptist, or other "magic carpet" to Heaven.
March 29, 200917 yr I would add that it should not be negotiable to anyone who calls themselves Christians. So now we move to questioning other's salvation based on how they vote; something specifically Christ said not to do.
March 29, 200917 yr So now we move to questioning other's salvation based on how they vote; something specifically Christ said not to do. Christ specifically mentioned voting habits? Which verse?
March 30, 200917 yr Christ specifically mentioned voting habits? Which verse? Does this really require clarification??? He spoke against passing judgement on the Salvation of others.
March 30, 200917 yr Author Does this really require clarification??? He spoke against passing judgement on the Salvation of others. You have exerted much energy in being a critic of those of us who feel that it is unconscionable that Notre Dame would invite the abortionist, Obama, to speak at its commencement and, even worse, give him an honorary degree. However, you haven't told us how you feel about it and the reasoning behind why you believe as you do. If you can, tell us why you believe that we are wrong and use something more substantive than "he is our president and he deserves our respect" because he certainly isn't my president and respect is earned. It isn't a fringe benefit that goes with the job.
March 30, 200917 yr I think it is a wonderful thing. He is a self made man, who is highly intelligent with a great academic background and good family man Oh and he is the President of the United States. So what if you don't agree with him on everything politically or religiously, I thought Notre Dame was an academic institution why wouldn't any academic institution want the POTUS to speak at thier commencement? Yes I'm quite serious it's my opinion and obviously we disagree. I guess anyone who doesn't agree lock step with you is trying to stir the pot. I would like to clarify that my description of him was accuarate and also only included his personal life and academic achievements and nothing about his political philosophy. Columbia Harvard Law President of Harvard Law Review Constitutional Law professor at University of Chicago Law School Illinois state senator US senator from Illinois President of the United States I would have really enjoyed hearing someone with these qualifications speak at my commencement no matter what side of the political aisle they reside. Are you Jerry Falwell, James Doubson or Pat Roberts? You have exerted much energy in being a critic of those of us who feel that it is unconscionable that Notre Dame would invite the abortionist, Obama, to speak at its commencement and, even worse, give him an honorary degree. Oh I wasn't aware you had missed my first two post in this thread..... The man has great academic achievments, your refusal to acknowledge them doesn't lessen them in anyones eyes. The last time I checked Notre Dame was an academic institution and quite a good one at that. So, a man with great academic achievements who is also the POTUS speaking at a quality academic institution makes sense to me sorry it doesn't for you.:idunno:
