I enjoyed watching the 10th region games as a fan, it was comfortable, but I still prefer the high school gym for tournament play. In my opinion playing in a college arena like this makes it almost like the state tournament or super bowl, where it is more corporate and takes the fans and momentum of the crowd out of the game.

But it also gives the teams a chance to play on a college size floor, which is a plus for the team that makes it to state.

It wasn't a plus for Mason Co.!!! We lost in the first round and last year the tourney was at Montgomery and we won the State Tournament!!:eek::eek:

In all seriousness, I keep the scorebook for Mason Co and have kept the book for three or four Regional Tourneys. When you are at the scorer's table with a lot of fans going crazy, with coaches coming up and asking about game situations and referee's asking questions, it makes my blood start pumping and the hair on my short neck stand up. There is nothing like it. You do not get that at the BOK. It is more like college than High school!!!!! Gold, was you as excited at this past regional final or in 2007 finals at Mason Co. (I mean during the game not after it).

My feelings are that the BOKC acquitted itself quite well in hosting the 10th Region Tournament, and Anthony Strong and his staff did a masterful job of administrating it.

 

It is a wonderful facility to have at our disposal, and was a nice change of venue interspersing some regional (district) flavor into the mix, now that the 10th Region Tournament is the not the sole possession of the Mason County Fieldhouse and the tournament seems to be on course for a four year, at least three destination, road show. Let's not get carried away and call for it to be held at the BOKC every year. Once every four years is a nice mix and might be a welcomed change of pace.

 

First of all, having it in Highland Heights on an annual basis won't happen, and second of all if it would, it would hijack the nucleus of the 10th Region identity, history, and tradion, and recreate it primarily as a 9th Regionlike event. Instead of the teams comprising the 37th District being the newbies to the 10th, the original 10th Region teams would now become the kidnapped (or adopted) sons of the 9th.

 

Personally, I strongly encourage the 38th District powers to vote a return to the Mason County Fieldhouse in 2010, where I think everyone will come to the realization that "there is no place like home," and welcome back our prodigal tournament, re-embracing the traditional home of the 10th Region rite of spring in its rightful setting.

Yes and No. I was excited that it was at the BOK and felt they did a great job. My expectation of winning was not the same as was in 2007 as I didn't think our chances of winning this year was as good. Just too many injuries to overcome. We were without Pervis, Zollo had a high ankle sprain in the semi-game and could hardly walk the day of the finals. Rogers playing with the mask, which really bothered him, and he tore it off in the 4th quarter. He was hurt Jan 17th and had missed all the games until the district.....didn't even think he would be back. Robert Hatton had been playing with 2 high ankle sprains. I saw his ankles and they were nasty looking....he is such a tuff kid. We were not near full strength and it showed. In 2007 we lost the regular season game to Mason Co....without Bennett. I knew in the finals he would make a difference. At the finals of the region we had him and he hit the 3 pointer late in the game to put the Cards up by 4 points. We were full strength and I knew we could win.

 

As far as facilities the BOK has the best for the fans and the players.

You will get no bashing from me. As I've stated many times, on a selfish, personal level I'd like to see it at The Fieldhouse. I live three miles away. You can look around the place and see that it is the historical home of 10th Region basketball. Its status as a geographically centralized facility that can handle the event (building and staff) is undisputed.

 

I also realize that it is selfish to think that other facilities that CAN host the event should never get the opportunity.

 

As far as how it felt/how excited I was, my expectations were that Clark County, who had defeated Mason County in the regular season without Rogers, would probably win again with him returning to the Cardinal lineup (oh me of little faith). And it looked that way for a great deal of the game.

 

I also felt like the 10th Region final was an opening act for the 9th Region final. Just an impression.

 

Ultimately, however, if the Royals are playing there, I'll generally go and watch.:thumb:

And that was my point about playing second fiddle to the 9th. It felt like an opening act rather than what it should have been. Look as much as the next guy I loved watching two regional finals and taking less than 20 minutes to drive home. But.....the 10th needs to embrace its traditions and make sure those are not lost (this would include money for non participating schools as one of its traditions).

Never said that at all. If you had read the previous posts, Gold Sunrise said playing at BOK college floor was an advantage. It was not because we lost in the first round. We lost because we could not put the ball in the basket and that does not matter what floor or gym you play in.

The fans and band to me make the atmosphere, not the building. GRC had the largest student section at the finals of the BOK this year. Check out the pictures that paNDA posted. So for me it was just as good this year as in 2007. I know I have also read on here that Mason Co students section was not as supportive as in years past. This makes a huge difference. Remember when your student section would dress up like army soldiers and really get the crowd going.

I do not think the tourney should be played exclusively at one sight. I like the neutral sight. Two teams of equal ability and talent should not play on one of the teams home floor for a chance to go to the sweet 16. Unless you want to take the champion and runner up and that is not going to happen. It would be great if the 16 regions could be based around venues like the BOK, EKU, Morehead, Murray, etc. NEUTRAL COURTS for regional championships.

Does anyone have the $ that the schools received?

 

I thought the BOK did a great job ...wouldn't mind having it there every year....and yes we do have a long way to travel. If not there every year I would like to see it rotate between Mason, Montgomery Co and the BOK. All did good jobs and all have pro and cons.

 

 

I certainly have some questions I would like someone to answer and maybe even you might know Ms. Sunrise. I have learned as of right now, the guaranteed money, has not been sent to schools. If its guaranteed, why hasn’t it been sent? Maybe because they didn’t cover costs? When Mason Co hosts the tourney, checks are cut and sent out one week after tourney is over. We are approaching the middle of April and no money? Wonder if the easter bunny is hopping around with it?
