I am positive that all schools involved votes to divide the proceeds $5000 to the participating schools and if that is met the rest is divided among the non-participating schools. That is how it plays out IF the tournament is held at the Mason County Fieldhouse.

 

The split this year was determined by negotiated contract with the BOKC folks - $4375 per participating team. There might have been a stipulation in the contract for additional share monies IF the attendance exceeded expectations but don't hold me to it.

Wow.....if that is the case then shame on the 10th region for the following reasons.

Third why play "2nd fiddle" to the 9th region championship game? Meaning why should the 10th region play a 6:00 championship......

I'm a believer that share money should be a secondary consideration and not the primary consideration involving the 10th Region Tournament.

 

If I were king of the world, or at least the 10th Region Tournament, I would have proposed that all tickets be $5 each as in the past, and at the end of the day, when the tournament was concluded, the spoils counted, and the proceeds divided among the participating/not-participating teams. It would have remained as it had always been when played at the Fieldhouse. Up to $5,000 to each of the participating teams, and anything left over to be divided among all of the teams in the region. If the shares were only $2500, $3500, or $4500, so be it. The public and your fans would have been served, the attendance maximized, and everyone would have been happy. Well I'm sure not everybody.

 

I don't know how much the schools depend on that share money. Since most of us can't count on it on an annual basis, it can't be budgeted. I'm sure that it is a nice little bonus. At our school (Brossart) it helps finance the non-revenue raising sports and the basketball program itself doesn't see a dime of it. I can't speak for the other 10th Region programs.

 

I remember kidding Kenny Mueller (Scott Athletic Director) last year immediately following our district tournament game when E.J. Murray hit a shot at the buzzer to beat and eliminate us. Mueller walked over to shake hands with a glum look on his face. I told him to smile for god's sake - that kid just hit a $5,000 shot.

You are right Mustang!! The agreement that I was talking about is when it is held at Mason. The host school hold the Regional Tourney draw and can bring up what they want and the eight participating schools vote on it.

Second what they got was guaranteed no one had to guess what they were going to get.

Third the arrangement of games was due to the 9th having their contract first. it was determined that the next time 10th would play second game.

This year was a first time thing for everyone involved including BOK. They guaranteed the 4375 up front. The 5000 is not guaranteed at Mason is it? The BOK maybe could have paid more but they had no idea how attendance would be. If it is there again maybe they will pay more. I don't know if Mason would have paid out 5000 this year either and know one else does. I heard from someone involved that the BOK came out with money in their pocket after everything was over so now they know how they stand for future tournaments.

I understand that non participating schools receiving revenue is really not a top priority however it is a nice luxury that the 10th had provided for many years.

The BOK took a chance on the 10th and guaranteed what seems a fair split. Now that everyone involved has the first tournament under their belt maybe a bigger guarantee can be worked out for the next time and there should be a next time. The money is nice but it should not be the only factor in deciding where the region should be held.

No, there is no guarantee of the $5000 payout at Mason but when it reaches it like six of the last eight years, that is as close of a guarantee as you are going to get. Regional Tourneys in the past have never guaranteed any payout only this year at BOK. Should BOK put money in their pocket or should it go to the schools. At Mason, the expenses were paid and the money split between schools. Mason does not get to pocket what is left!!!

Seating, Concessions(quality not price), Bathrooms, Temperature, Not having to clear the gym between sessions, Could see the scoreboards from all seats, just to name a few.:laugh:
