Ballard is the only team I listed that does not have a Sweet 16 title, but they did have multiple finals appearances. I think ultimately you have to have some Sweet 16 success to be considered, which is why I left off PRP, and I think you need to have some sustained, which is why the likes of Elizabethtown and Jeffersontown are absent.

 

If I were rating them, I'd rate them as:

 

1) Mason County - Clear #1, put over the top with the last two years. They moved into the lead for overall wins, finals appearances, and championships after the 2008 season. Is in the top 6 of every major category, and in the top 3 of all but Sweet 16 winning percentage.

 

2) Warren Central - Along with South Laurel and Mason County, a staple of the Sweet 16 this decade with six appearances. Tied with Mason County in Sweet 16 advancement up to the semifinals. Top 9 in every major category, and in top 7 of all but Sweet 16 winning percentage.

 

3) Scott County - Most dominant team in the state by overall winning percentage. Top 5 of all winning categories. Made the semifinals in each of the three Sweet 16s they made.

 

4) Lexington Catholic - Finished in the top six of all winning categories. Did not lose in any of their first round games in the Sweet 16.

Something that sticks out to me is that you have Mason, Ballard, Scott Co, and LexCath as the top 4 programs in total wins. Its impressive because those 4 teams always play a very tough schedule. Also, if you put any of those teams in a slightly weaker region I think all those programs would have atleast 1 more Sweet 16 and probably 3 or 4 more trips to the Sweet 16 during the 90s.

 

 

The only other stat I can think of to check would be head to head matchups. I know LexCath, Scott Co, and Mason Co. all play each other every year. Scott Co. plays Ballard. But I don't believe Warren Central play any of them.

By my calculations, Covington Catholic went 8-19 this year. Holmes had 30+ wins & only 2 (?) losses.

 

If both mine & Dragonfire's calculations are correct, then CCH came into this year 204 - 64. That's a winning % of 76.1%, which would have put them in the top 10.
