DragonFire Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Lexington Catholic scores the first 7 points of OT as part of a 21-6 run and pulls out the game. Bowling Green fought hard, had a late lead, but just couldn't hold it in a game that they were not expected to do this well in.
Les Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 You forgot to mention the non-charge call on Sanford late in the game on his game-tying shot to force overtime.
DragonFire Posted March 19, 2009 Author Posted March 19, 2009 ^ I couldn't see it, and they didn't even mention it on the radio as far as I remember. I just have to take your word for it.
swamp thang Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Congratulations for a great game. Good luck to the Knights Friday night
110764 Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 You forgot to mention the non-charge call on Sanford late in the game on his game-tying shot to force overtime. I don't even know who Sanford plays for, but I was sure it had to be the officials' fault somehow.
Equipment Change Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Congrats to Coach Salsman. Enjoyed watching his teams at Bourbon Co. years ago. Two former Bourbon Co coaches still alive (Robert Hammonds--West Jessamine, and Salsman-LexCath).
CatsCatsCats Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Sanford was unstoppable down the stretch. He MIGHT be the best player in the tournament.
doomer Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Congrats to Catholic. Survive and advance. I thought Botkin was key to keeping Catholic close in the first half when Sanford was struggling. Bowling Green played well and better execution in the last three minutes of regulation and they advance.

He is the perfect complimentary player.
Shutitdown Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 You forgot to mention the non-charge call on Sanford late in the game on his game-tying shot to force overtime. That was a huge no call. The BG kid was set but I would have been surprised to see the charge called. Sanford is tough and can get a shot anytime he wants.
NHS BIG DADDY Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Great game between these two. #10 for BG was a baller. He tried to carry them to a victory and almost did. The player I was impressed with the most for LC was number 32. That kid was very good.
Log Mountain Boy Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 You forgot to mention the non-charge call on Sanford late in the game on his game-tying shot to force overtime. I thought it was an easy call to make right in front of the referee. I had a great angle to see it as well. But that being said Sanford was huge down the stretch and willed his team to overtime. The refs in this game reffed much different than in the 11th region. LexCath was called for a lot more fouls reaching in and back tipping and bodying up than they do in 11th region games. Its something they probably need to adjust to. Also, what I love about the Sweet 16 is theres always kids you haven't seen and have heard little about it seems that gets to showcase his skills on the big stage. Barksdale was very impessive for Bowling Green.
PurplePride92 Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 If we get the ball to Tevin at the end of regulation we win this game. When Tevin touched the ball he either scored off the jumper, scored off penetration, or scored at the free throw line when he got fouled after penetration. That being said, I couldn't be more proud of my Purples. They played hard and almost beat a traditional power on their home floor(sort of, kind of) in a game that some would say we shouldn't have even been in. As was said earlier, a little bit better execution at the end and the ball in Tevin Barksdale's hands at the end of regulation and we are talking about the biggest upset in this year's Sweet 16. I do agree, it was a horrible non call on Sanford when it was an obvious charge, but we had the ball the last 20 seconds and did not execute, so I blame us and not the refs. I also thought we did a great job of not just breaking the press of Catholic, but we scored off of our press offense. Something Scott County couldn't do. I heard people say they couldn't believe Catholic didn't press on our last possession in regulation, but we scored off of their press more than we turned it over. I wish they would have pressed. We also did a great job of making Beckham a non factor. he really looked like a freshman today. I am still a proud Purple with a lot of PurplePride. Good job Purples!!!!!!!!!

My friend and I were talking about that during the timeout before the last possession. He said he would have kept them in the press and I said no way to much of a risk to get beat back for an easy bucket. I thought they did the right thing by sending everyone back and playing tough half court defense.
PurplePride92 Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 I agree, and to the Coach Salsman's credit, it worked.
