Maybe it depends on what region one is in then.

Do some regions not let everyone play in the postseason?

The tournament is perfect just the way it is.

If you do this, you ruin the regional tournaments, IMO, because the only fair way to do it would be to do what Wireman suggested and let the runner-ups in as well. Look at the districts right now...they're basically meaningless. Granted, the regions wouldn't be as bad because there would still be drama, but not nearly as much.

No offense, but this is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard. But, others may not feel that way.

As it is, I'm with DragonFire. Every team has their chance during the district and regional tournaments.

If you just picked the "top" 8 teams...that would be a nightmare. And, we likely would end up with a bunch of extra Louisville teams. That wouldn't generate extra interest. In fact, that would ruin the Sweet 16 because it would make a small-school, cinderella run to a title almost impossible. It would turn the Sweet 16 into the LIT.

Everyone plays. Everyone has a chance. Heck you don't even have to win your district to get to the Regional. So right off the bat 64 teams are getting a reprieve. You don't win in your region, you are not good enough to go to Rupp. Go home get better, try again next year.

Try District 42 on for size.

My question would be do you think the NCAA tournament was better as a 16-team field back in the seventies and before? I think at 64-team NCAA tournament is way better. I think the same would happen with the Sweet ??....it would be WAY BETTER, generate more interest, more people.

I agree that quality teams are left at home and mis-spoke in stating otherwise, however, having said that, any way other than our current system would be subjective and would always be open to argument. As an example, many people believe that Scott County has a quality team and with another opportunity might beat Lexington Catholic but it isn't fair to randomly give them a second opportunity. I would go so far as to suggest that maybe the district runner-up doesn't deserve another chance in regionals

It was just a thought....

I propose that Kentucky add the top 8 non-region winners to the tournament. They can be selected by coaches, a committe, or a ranking, etc (not the press!). This could add a day or morning to the event, but would generate revenue, even more interest and be more FAIR. It is time for a change!

Boo... Hissssssssssss... :ohbrother:  :irked:

Are there teams in the 42nd district that don't get to compete in the tournament?

Apples and oranges. In reality, the high school "tournament" begins with the District. If you're going to compare college to high school, you can't just compare the whole tournament to the Sweet 16. It would be more comparable if the NCAA divided the nation into 64 districts and 16 regions and played it out like the KHSAA does and then hyped the last 16 teams.

There's no comparison to a tournament that selects its participants through a combination of automatic bids (win conference tournament) and at-large selections based on subjectivity and a tournament that, in reality, begins around February 20th and culminates in Lexington during March.

Every team in the state gets to participate in the tournament. If they don't make it to the Sweet 16 it is because they simply weren't good enough.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

This would be a complete mess IMO.

If you don't like your region, move. If that is too extreme just learn to root your favorite program on and accept the fact that making it out of the 11th, 6th and 7th is extremely hard. The regional tournament has some magic. Letting more teams in would ruin it. The state tourny would also lose it's aura. Getting there wouldn't be such a big deal. High school basketball across the state is perfect the way it is.

Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with that.

I, for one, think college basketball would be better if they did something like that. Conference winners only, like it used to be. Just think of all the drama in your conference tournaments!

Of course it's not broke either so...........

Don't change a thing!!!!!!!

There were five District Championship rematches...

Region 6

Central beat Shawnee after losing to them in the District.

Region 7

Eastern beat J'town after losing to them in the District.

Region 8

Anderson Co. beat Shelby Co. both times.

Region 13

Corbin beat South Laurel both times.

Region 14

Hazard beat PCC in the rematch.

So, in District Final rematches, the initial winner was 2-3 in rematches. IMO, when you have two teams that are even, its hard to beat them twice in roughly one week.

Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with adding the District Finals into the Regional tournament. That way, you eliminate giving a team a mulligan. Now, that's a change I could support.

I wouldnt let the District Runner-Up go to Region.
