For the 2010-2011 season as has been rumored on here, guess that would mean 10th region tournament would just rotate between The Fieldhouse and BOK and Montgomery would have to play regional at Morehead State. You know that would have to make more than a few Mt.Sterling tax payers mad to build a gym that size to specifically(probably) hold the 10th region tournament and then be shipped off to the 16th so Fleming County can come back to the 10th. Also heard rumors at the BOK that Clark County was headed out of the 10th in a season or two

Did you hear that because of location Clark County was going to the 12th( or whatever region West Jessimane is in? Does that make sense, sure hope that one isn't true

No way that makes any sense....just look at a map.

Agree..... no way to the 12th. This one is a new one to me.

I heard Montgomery to the 16th (I don't know why), Fleming back to the 10th, and Clark to the 11th. And Gold some of us don't want you to leave the 10th, it just wouldn't be the same without the Cards in the 10th.

I really hope this don't play out,I would really weaken the 10th region tremendously if so.

Montgomery should have gone to the 16th before Fleming did in the first place. I also thought the Clark County to the 12th didn't make sense, don't know much about that area though, would Clark County be closer to 12th region schools than they are to 10th region schools?

I too have heard the Clark to the 11th, Montgomery to the 16th rumors.

I'm curious about a couple of things.

What are these rumors based on, and what has changed in the 10th, 11th, and 16th that would necessitate a change.

I do know that the KHSAA will occasionally re-align districts as required, i.e. St. Henry to the 33rd (?), but I would be more than a little surprised if a re-alignement was conducted in the 10th, 11th, and 16th without the addition or consolidation of existing schools.

As a Montgomery Co. taxpayer, I wouldn't be mad. We have a fantastic new arena that now allows us to host a boy's and girl's holiday tournament at the same time by utilizing the new arena and the Barn. We also have been fortunate enough to host the KY Prep Classic for the past two years. While I'm sure that the prospect of hosting the 10th region tournament was a factor in the decision to build a new gym, it was not the only reason.

As far as having to travel to Morehead every year, that would actually be much better than our current situation. Compare the travel over the last four years from Mt. Sterling to the site of the 10th and 16th region tournaments:

10th Region

2006 Maysville - 50 miles

2007 Maysville - 50 miles

2008 Mt. Sterling - 0 miles

2009 NKU - 120 miles

Total - 220 miles

16th Region

2006-2009 Morehead - 32 miles each year

Total - 128 miles

Having said all of this, I'm not in favor of Montgomery Co. moving to the 16th. While it may be better from a competitive standpoint in most years, I'd hate to see them and GRC both moved out of the 40th district because of the great rivalry that they have.

I hope it doesn't happen as 10th Region basketball is a special entity just like it is.

As far as why: The continued growth in Northern KY has caused the 10th to move in that direction. Montgomery and Clark are the southern-most schools in the region.

I know the Boone Co district has 5 teams. Are there other districts in the 9th with more than 4 teams or with schools being built?

If it happens I'm sure there won't be many tears shed in Mt. Sterling though. The MCIT didn't fold, it just moved to March.

For GRC, there are some pretty powerful people associated closely with that program and I'd be shocked if he allowed the move to the 11th to happen.

I have heard that it is a result of overcrowding in the 9th. They want to move GRC and Montgomery out of the 10th to make room for more teams from the 9th. Don't know if there is any truth to this, but that is what I've heard.

Logically it makes sense totally to move Montgomery to 16th and GRC to 11th and move Fleming back in the 10th and move another NKY team in the 10th to even it out.GRC and Montgomery are farthest away and MC is within 30 mins of most 16th region teams as GRC is within 25 mins of most all 11th region teams. And that would then put 6 NKY teams in 10th .The bad part of it is it really weakens the 10th region a lot,And it breaks up some really good rivalries that have been long standing.Montgomery in my opinion would benefit greatly from it,But the flip side GRC would really take the hit here.I really hope it all stays like it is though.

Within 30 minutes of Ashland, Boyd County, Elliott, Morgan, Rose Hill, Fairview, Raceland, Greenup, West Carter, East Carter and Russell??? The only ones within 30 minutes on a bus would be Rowan, Bath, and Menifee.

Unfortunately, Montgomery is on the outskirts of just about any region they would be able to join. Distance wise it almost makes more sense to send Montgomery to the 11th with Clark if that were to happen.
