If Montgomery County goes to the 16th?

Featured Replies

Within 30 minutes of Ashland, Boyd County, Elliott, Morgan, Rose Hill, Fairview, Raceland, Greenup, West Carter, East Carter and Russell??? The only ones within 30 minutes on a bus would be Rowan, Bath, and Menifee.

Unfortunately, Montgomery is on the outskirts of just about any region they would be able to join. Distance wise it almost makes more sense to send Montgomery to the 11th with Clark if that were to happen.

:scared::scared::scared: NO THANKS :isurrender:

Logically it makes sense totally to move Montgomery to 16th and GRC to 11th and move Fleming back in the 10th and move another NKY team in the 10th to even it out.GRC and Montgomery are farthest away and MC is within 30 mins of most 16th region teams as GRC is within 25 mins of most all 11th region teams. And that would then put 6 NKY teams in 10th .The bad part of it is it really weakens the 10th region a lot,And it breaks up some really good rivalries that have been long standing.Montgomery in my opinion would benefit greatly from it,But the flip side GRC would really take the hit here.I really hope it all stays like it is though.

I agree with friedtaters on this one. Logically to also move Montgomery Co to the 11th. If moved to the 16th. A big portion of thier games would be in the Ashland area. That would be like going to the BOK most every away game. The 11th as far as distance goes, would be closer for them.

Plato to address your post on the influnces some have here in not allowing GRC to go to the 11th: Billy Hick has ALOT of pull and they sent Scott Cp to the 11th. :sssh:

WE hear this come up every year. I will just wait and see what happens.

Montgomery should have gone to the 16th before Fleming did in the first place. I also thought the Clark County to the 12th didn't make sense, don't know much about that area though, would Clark County be closer to 12th region schools than they are to 10th region schools?

I dont quite understand this, since Montgomery is much farther than the heart of the 16th than Fleming. I dont have a preference either way, but I dont understand the logistics.

Speaking as a Mason County fan, I wish there were some way to keep Montgomery and Clark County in the 10th, with Fleming County rejoining. It wasn't all that long ago that Estill County was in the 10th, which made very little sense to me.

One way to make it palatable would be to replace the teams from the 40th with a couple of strong NKY programs. Highlands comes to mind, but I can't imagine them leaving the 9th.

If Clark and Montgomery were to eventually be in different regions, a great rivalry becomes diminished.

I for one don't feel a bit sorry if districts, regions and rivalries are broken up, as have stated on here before they broke up one of the most intense rivalry districts going when they broke up Bracken County,Augusta,Deming and Pendleton County, so the big ole' schools are going to have to get over it(if it happens, like we did), been trying to get Mason County out of our district and shipped to Northen Kentucky for years, if not they're going to run out of banner room in the Fieldhouse for district titles

Well, with Mason County's location that may be tough. However, with the fairly recent additions of Scott, Campbell County, Bishop Brossart, Silver Grove and Calvary Christian; perhaps the theory is the reverse - get NKY shipped to Region 10.

Billy Hicks has nowhere near the political pull that exist in Winchester. Not even close.

I said I hope it stays the same. I like the current rivalries in the 10th.

My wife, a Mason County graduate and current employee of the school system, asked me last night as we were driving back from the game, "Why does it seem like so many people hate Mason County?"

I tried to explain the New York Yankees/big boy on the block syndrome. LOTS of rabid fans; but also lots who would just as soon see them lose every game they play.

Mason County is (and these are estimates) 3 miles from St. Patrick, 18 miles from Fleming County, 20 miles from Augusta, 20 miles from Bracken County, 26 miles from Deming and 30 miles from Lewis County. Barring the importation of some Ohio schools, Mason County is gonna be placed in a district with some combination of these schools.

No matter how you realign, Mason will always be the big dog on the block.

Sometimes people make too much of realignment. Geography is still the major issue, and their isnt a team within many miles any direction that can compete with Mason.

There you go. Until the entire county picks up and moves about 60 miles east, west or south; there's nothing else for it.

This we can agree on. I love our rivalry with Montgomery Co. I respect their kid and program, and they have a good coaching staff. :thumb:

BUT, there are schools in Northern Kentucky that have the enrollment of Mason County and the kids too chose from too make things more fair, competition-wise and the drive from Mason County to any school in Northern Ky. is an hour or just a little more, whereas the other schools in Mason County's district( as of now), all three added together don't have half the enrollment that Mason County has. If guaranteed to win your district until infinity is what Mason County fans enjoy, than there is no argument.

No way that makes any sense....just look at a map.

Agree..... no way to the 12th. This one is a new one to me.

Most 8th Region schools have to travel through Frankfort (11th Region) to get to Anderson Co., which is the current 8th champ. And it's been like this since I was in middle school, and probably long before that. So, what "makes any sense" doesn't always make sense.

And, until a couple years ago, 8th schools had to travel through two regions (L'ville's 6th and 7th) to get to the Bullitt Co. schools.
