Yeah that is about right. I have been to the state tournament since I was little and have seen the crowd (neutral fans) get behind the small schools, country schools, underdogs, etc... I just think Elliott Co. will have that this year.

Elliott County fits the mold, IMO.

 

Small, county school that plays an exciting style of ball. In fact, I'd say they might have a bigger advantage because of their recognition. Many people have seen them for the past couple of years and others have heard a lot about them this year. So, a lot of people will be coming to watch them specifically.

 

Conversely, the crowds typically don't get behind city schools from heavier populated areas, especially if they're a favorite. Teams like Holmes, Eastern and Lexington Catholic fit that description.

That's when the Sweet 16 gets exciting, IMO. Pretty much every team brings a good crowd from home. It's when all the neutral crowd gets behind somebody, the place gets loud and you can really feel the excitement.

That is exactly what I was meaning. I guess I should not have said the only home team because they still have to get past Anderson Co. first.

You are correct. I have been to every session about 10 years in a row and get the same tickets every year as do many in that section. It gets to be like a small community where you look forward to seeing many of them each year. They are mostly neutral fans who don't have a dog in the fight, but are looking for somebody to pick up on. Last year when Maynard hit that trey with 3:00 left that put Elliott up 6 against Mason you would have swore it was an Elliott section. Most of them are rooting for the small schools and want the large metro schools out quickly. The deeper and longer Elliott hangs around more and more of these neutral sections are going to turn into Elliott sections. They only have 6,000 in the county, but may have 10,000 standing and cheering for them before the thing is over. It may look more and more like their home court the longer they hang around.

Elliot County is a great basketball team, but there is one problem. This team does not have a deep enough bench to survive 4 games in 4 days. If good shooters do not have their legs under them, then their shot is greatly affected. I for one would love to see Elliot cut down the nets. I just think that bench play and fresh legs are crucial in advancing and winning the hardware on Saturday Night.

I am with you on this one. I might be wrong, but it is JMO that these 5 players for Elliott County will not have much legs left if they get to a semi-final matchup with Holmes. Holmes atleast players 7-8 players on average to give the legs a little rest. From what I have seen and heard, if Elliott isn't blowing a team out, they play 5-6 at most.

You make a good point here. I cant help but make an observation on the nature of these boards when you have opened the door though.

 

Picture this highly possible theoretical situation. Holmes wins but someone from Elliott mentions they didnt have the legs left. Everyone on the board says they are making excuses, but yet they are not. They are stating reasons why they lost. I despise when posters are making concessions on why they lost, but everyone calls them excuses.

I've seen the Elliot County boys play 3-4 games in a day, 4 games over

4 days will be pretty boring for them, my guess is they will be looking for pickup games over at UK in between games

Has nothing to do with that. It's the way he so easily dismissed all the other teams in what is a very competitive field, unwilling to see beyond the blinders.

IMO I think it is between Lex Cath and Holmes.

Had a question I was hoping someone could help me out with. I wont be able to make it to the state tourney games until saturday morning for the semi's and final, and I was wondering if I could still get good, lower level tickets buying them when I get there, or if I should pre-order them now and have them sent to me?

 

Just curious, because I don't want to get to Lexington Saturday morning around 9 and get tickets where I have to bring a pair of binoculars to watch. Someone help me out please!
