Yet we have no reason to believe that either will start or play much. I mean wasn't Liggins a 5 star recruit coming here, and yet Porter has been the starter are year. Harris has started the last two years for Billy G, so no reason to think he wont start him next year either.

Patterson played almost 36 minutes per game as a freshman.

Well I imagine they'd guard the opposing 1 and 2. Jon has enough length to defend, and from what I've heard of GJ, he has the quickness (certainly much more than Porter).

 

Other than that, those are exactly the spots he needed to fill, and I think he filled them well. Nevermind that he isn't done recruiting and may add another PG, and Pilgrim will also be eligible next year too.

I never said Tubby did not have some bad classes, he did. However he had enough really good ones combined with top class coaching, he was able to have great success. BCG needs to have top class recruiting (i.e. getting a Downey, Lawson type PG and multiple 5 star players in each class) to overcome his average coaching. Sorry just not seeing that level of recruiting at this point. He needs burger boys and multiple 5 stars in every class.

As for the guys you list, absolutely they can be a top 10 team. The fact we can even talk about commits more than a year away shows a ton of difference between the two staffs.

First of all I will say that I agree that this article is not the most professional written article that I have seen but there imo are some truths in it.

BCG is gone? I don't know and really doubt that. Here is my favorite part of the article and hads been my argument all along...........

 

It's true that Smith didn't leave an abundance of talent behind, but he did leave Jodie Meeks and laid the groundwork for landing Patrick Patterson and Darius Miller.

If you want to argue that big man Jared Carter, who has been a bust, is the only senior left behind by Smith that's true, but how many great high school players were lining up to wait in the wings to play behind Rajon Rondo (who left after two years for the NBA), Randolph Morris (who left early for the NBA), Joe Crawford and Ramel Bradley. The answer is not many are willing to do that in any program.

 

If you want to argue that Smith brought in the likes of mediocre to less than mediocre players like Perry Stevenson and Ramon Harris and Michael Porter that's also true, but in Gillispie's two seasons he has yet to bring in a player who he starts ahead of any of them.

If given playing time, maybe he would have improved some. Yeah some games Miller does take a good amount of minutes, then the next game he plays Harris more still. As for Patterson yeah he started 36 minutes per game as a freshman. However we just lost our whole front line basically in Morris, Perry, Thomas, and Woo. So yeah of coarse he was going to play as a freshman.

 

My point is Billy G has more talented players now, that should be starting over guys. Yet he does not start them. So then why you assuming next year those guys will start? I mean those experience guys will be seniors next year, so no resason to believe that he still wont start them. It seems to me you keep trying to defend him and give him a free pass for this, and he shouldn't get a free pass for this just because next year looks better. There is no reason for this team to be this bad this year, and honestly who knows about next year because we have no clue who he will even play.

Why do you keep bringing up the second round losses for 3 out of the last 4 years. You make it sound like Tubby did horrible in 3 out of the 4. The truth is his last two years were his worst, and were still better than any year under Billy G so far. I mean one of the second round losses came as a 1 seed. Which I mean sucks getting upset, but don't take away from the great team he had that year. Upsets do happen in the tournament, even to us at UK.

 

You bring up what these scouting services say, but I bet these scouting services had good things to say about Liggins, and Miller that would have made us think that they would have definitely been starting this year. Yet they are not still. Liggins can't keep his head on straight and cant play defense, and well Millers playing time has been inconsistent. Billy G has shown he wont play players if they don't play defense and such. So him saying Hood might not play much because of his defense is very reasonable. You bring in good points that he is bringing in good players, but it dont mean anything if he does not play them. Which we have no reason to believe he would, because he is not playing the more talented players this year.

We will have to agree to disagree. The list I named is no where near top ten talent. Honestly it is less talent then we are used to... You will see, after PPat leaves. If Meeks leaves (not likely)BCG will have the first losing season at UK in decades.

Skinner used to be a beat writer for the Cats for the Post a while ago. He started writing in Maysville. He graduated from UK, so he has ties. He is more than qualified to write about them.

No other writer is saying what he is saying....qualified, OK lets see what happens. CBG leaves and I'll say I was wrong, the coach stays then he just like the guys we deal with in Alabama, selling papers at others expense with their insight.
