West Jessamine student with MRSA has died

Featured Replies

I there anything that can be done to prevent it.

Make sure your kids shower after every practice and every game.

Cover all open wounds and treat with triple antibiotic ointments imediately before any games and after showers.

If a shower is not immeadiately available. Antiseptic ointments are recommended as items to keep with you. Note I said antiseptic not antibiotic. If you're away from home clean with antiseptics first then treat with antibiotic ointments.

If any signs of heat, infection or swelling occur in the area, DO NOT waste time, get to the doctor or hospital.

This is the one place where cleanliness is next to Godliness.

I have heard good things about iodine based tinctures for cleaning, but don't have anything to substantiate it.

There is huge concern about the synthetic turf fields, as they trap moisture and bacteria.

coldweatherfan offered some great advice. Just want to add that, if you are hospitalized for any reason (even on an outpatient basis) you need to be extremely careful. Hospitals are a prime focus for the fight against MRSA. You need to be very proactive about your own care. Demand that healthcare workers wash their hands well. And make sure that anything that comes into your vicinity is clean.

That's where my Mom caught MRSA. She went in without it and before you know it..it's full blown and a year later...she died.....of course that wasn't here only problem but you will never make me believe that the MRSA wasn't the cause for most of her problems. At her death her children had to wear mask and the whole getup while standing there as she took her last breath:irked:

I hardly saw my Mom in the last few months of her life because I had had heart surgery and I still had some massive open wounds and I couldn't be around her much. When I was around her I had to cover my wounds airtight. Even when they were covered up good I was still scared silly that something would creep in.

A word to the wise. If you have any type of procedure done; whether it be a simple outpatient procedure at the local GP's office to something major - do what you can to make sure you're scheduled EARLY in the day and not late.

Wiping down weight lifting equipment with a disenfectant solution each evening and bleaching disenfecting showers is also very important.

I hate to hear about this, my prayers go out to Jessamine County and anybody that knew him. RIP Ryan Robinson.

Thoughts and prayers to this family.

Staph infection as I understand it.

You would be right, I used to work in a hospital and took care of patients that had this gloves, gowns and other protective gear wear wornm each time I went into a room.

Everyone take Papa's advice I was a CNA in a hosptial and pretty much the basic things like hand washing can help stop MRSA from spreading.

Good point. It also prevents you from being a victim of scheduling backup. The later it gets, the more likely you're going to be waiting...and waiting...and...

Having lost a child I now that they need lots of prayer. As someone told me It will never get easy, you just learn to deal with it better, May they find some comfort.
