Holmes 47 Newport Central Catholic 38

Featured Replies

I believe Holmes won the game because of Rico in the 4th quarter, he took over the game. NCC had a great gameplan and kept it close pretty much the whole game.

Any one on here who doesn't think that foul was intentional, is crazy! You can't have 2 players slam into you on the fastbreak. They slammed Pittman into the padded part of the goal which is like ten feet behind the basket. Neither one of the NCC players looked like they were going for the ball they went for Pittman's midsection! That was an easy call for the officails, and yes it was a turning point in the game, but that was the appropiate call.

Yea I've noticed that several times from Housely this year when he and Pittman have had break aways together and he elected to throw it down himself rather than giving it up to the big fella for an oop.........

Just my opinion but it seemed to me like Housely never gave it up to Pittman because M. Giesler never committed to him so he didn't stop him drive; seemed like a smart play to me... Though they probably could've just backed it out and let the clock run out...

I've seen several games this year though where Housely had a chance to give it up for an oop but elected to take it himself and missed a dunk. I've personally only seen him dunk 2 or 3 times in a situation like we're discussing from today....

He has to learn to give it up a little more. In the past two games there's been two different Holmes players tell him "pass the ball Brandon.." and several occasions where he's hurt the team by trying to do too much by himself. He is still one hell of a player but sometimes gets too caught up in the moment with trying to be the "hero", if you will. Holmes has to play as a team in order to be successful, and that goes for every player, not just him. Like you stated in an earlier post, they settled for too many jumpers today rather than penetrating and looking for the open man.

You have to be kidding. You think the smarter play would have been for him to try an oop over to Pittman who was on the other side and trailing instead of just taking the uncontested dunk?

NCC basketball should show class like the football program and there coach.

All year with coach's dancing on the floor after games. No wonder that sport doesn't get the same support as football.

I never said it was a smarter play. If you look at my initial post, I simply stated the oop was there as well but he elected not to give it up. It was actually Bigmark who even brought it up that Pittman was on the other side waiting for the oop.

Sounds like the dancing is still in your head. LOL

I gurantee you they weren't dancing today and last I checked the thread is about today's game.

Let's put this to bed right now, Hensley even told the NewCath coaching staff after the game that the intentional foul call was completely bogus. I'll definitely take my eyes and his word for it.

You just CAN NOT call that in that situation. If that is the definition of inentional you are going to use how do you not call intentional with every foul by a losing team in the last two minutes.

Did he intentionally foul him, absolutely, was the intent to hurt? Did he undercut him, hit his head, even take him down? No. It was a terrible call at a terrible time.

That one call made a 2 point game a 9 point game and it was over. Anyone who says the turning point was anything other than that was watching a different game than I was.

The game was tied again after the intial dunk some mentioned before so clearly that wasn't it.

This game was very much in doubt until the 2:30 mark when the intentional was called.

For the record, I don't think Holmes would have lost this game anyway, but it would have been nice to have seen it play out if that call is not made and he jujst shoots two and we move on. At most its a 4 point game there with plenty of time left.

I didn't get a good view so I can't comment on the call being right or wrong. However, the difference in the late-game fouling that you mention is that you don't have a kid exposed to injury like he was in this case. If the official thinks it was from behind and he then sees #24 go into the basket support, he's going to call an intentional regardless of the time and score.

Very good points and I agree. I have to ask you this though.

Had that been one of the Holmes players who committed a foul like that (which honestly would never happen as I've seen them give easy lay ups many times this year because they don't play like that) would you still think it wasn't intentional? The bottom line is, the kid knew Pittman was going to dunk so he intentionally fouled him with some force to keep it from happening.

I don't want to turn this thread in to the same direction that the Ryle thread turned, but I think it was a pretty good call, especially after the one that the refs let go against Ryle.

I think that I've been pretty objective. I don't care what schools are involved, in a game that physical, that foul did not rise to another level of severity. Also, if you get the ball and you hit a kid from behind in the manner that this happened, that is not an intentional foul. Hard foul yes, worth giving Holmes an extra possession, no.

But you went on in your post to say that he needs to learn to give the ball up. That sort of implies that you thought that he should have ooped Pittman.

I know the difference, and it was a terrible call.
