Pitino Warned UK fans.....

Featured Replies

Pitino told UK fans if you run off Tubby Smith you will set your program back 5 years. Looks as if he was right.

Before anyone tells me the team has no talent, I want to say that is crap. He recruited kids to play his style.

Tubby left the following kids were on the team;

Crawford

Meeks

Bradley

Morris (Could have come back one more year)

Porter

Harris

Jasper

He was actively recruiting Patterson and Lucas.

Crawford - points per game, ft%, fg%, and 3p% all increased under BCG

Meeks - injured all 07-08

Bradley - points per game, ft%, fg%, and 3p% all increased under BCG

Morris - No. He signed with the Knicks March 23rd. BCG wasn't hired until April.

Porter - This is supposed to be a good thing?

Harris - This is supposed to be a good thing?

Jasper - Hurt much of 07/08, then transferred.

So about all you've got is that Jasper transferred after BCG came.

BCG got the most out of Bradley, Crawford, Meeks and Patterson. Honestly, I think he's gotten the most of Porter and Harris too. There's just not as much to get.

There are a LOT of valid reasons to not like BCG right now, but don't act like he was left tons of talent.

Who care's about Tubby Smith or what Pitino said they are not at UK so they can't help us. UK has been heading this way for the past several years and I don't know what it is going to take to get us back on top but I hope it happens soon. I am just really tired of hearing about Tubby and Pitino.

Pitino was the best thing that ever happen to the program. Tubby drug them down, and then you ended up with a coach such as Gillispie. UK will never be the same again, mark my word.

Could be, but he certaintly needs one more year at least. Hes a relentless recruiter something Tubby was not. Kids now days just arent that adament about coming and wearing the blue and white, in Tubby's situation he's like oh well can't make them come if they don't want to, however, Billy has the drive to actually push some of these kids and make them feel like they need to come to Kentucky.

I agree whole heartedly that BCG has had very questionable in game management whether it being play sets, style of play, and players who are on the court in certain rotations, but theres more to it than that. So far it has looked like he has made a fool of himself and showed he was just not ready to take over a tradition steeped and high expectation program such as Kentucky. It even comes off sometimes as if he don't try that hard, I know many posters make that assumption when talking about in game coaching. However, when watching any of the all-access shows whether it being a spot on college gameday, or anything on the Big Blue Sports network, you'll see that Billy really pushes these guys in practice and he works hard at coaching these young men. Joe Crawford stated in a magazine article that he and Ramel Bradley would sit in the vehicle everyday and debate before practice whether or not they were just going to say forget it and quit the team. He said there was a point in which he absolutely hated coming to practice because they were just so intense, but afterwards he said he has the utmost respect for Coach Gillespie and that he is/was his favorite coach that he has ever played for and that he loves him as a mentor to this day.

So with that said, I can't say Gillespie can't handle the pressure of being at Kentucky without at least seeing what he can do with another year and with a few more of "his" guys.

That imo is a fair assesment and opinion. We may differ on a couple of things but imo basically agree on most all of the points that you made in your post :thumb:.

I don't question BCG's work ethic at all. I like you question some of his (or lack there of) in game adjustments/bench coaching but that is just me. I am also quite confident that BCG knows more basketball than I do along with a huge pct. of posters here (if not all):D. Another thing that imo a lot of people don't think about is that he sees this team/players everyday in practice, knows how hard each one is or is not working along with any "attitude" problems.

I don't think that BCG should be gone after this season at all. I, like most am very dissapointed in this season but I believe after next season one could get a better idea on how the program is going (or not going). I do believe that there are some internal problems with this team.

Pat Forde (espn) was on the "First Take" program this morning talking about U.K.'s late season collapse (first time U.K. had lost 4 in a row to end a season since 1910). Forde also made mention that some of the U.K. Administration was upset with Gillispie over this season and his "people" skills and/or lack there of. Of course he mentioned the fans going after Gillispie and calling for his job but imo we are used to hearing that, lol.

So you are all jazzed up because Smith was leaving behind 6 quality players including Porter and Harris? You can't count Morris he was out the door so fast he didn't finish the spring semester.

"All jazzed up":idunno:. I was and am quite calm and was just stating an opinion .

Should you disagree then that is fine and I don't have a problem with that. Seems like you are the one all "jazzed up", lol.:walk:

People said the same about USC in Football, USC/FSU/Texas in Baseball...

Well this is basketball, and we are talking about Kentucky. Things are different in this situation.

Traditional powers almost always return to the top at some point. UK will likely do the same...

Your history needs some enlightenment. Heard of Adolph Rupp? I don't think Pitino passes Rupp as the best thing that has happened to UK and if I were to think about it a bit longer I'm sure I could think of 3-5 more also. Remember RP left on his own for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Why place all the blame on BCG... He deserves some but he doesn't throw the ball away 20 times a game and doesn't get lost on defense.. Or miss open shots.. The guys on the team are just not that good...

Funny how all the Tubby supporters make every excuse in the world for him, i.e. his big in game coaching time out he called against Michigan the other day that lost the game for them, but when something happens to this team it's always Billy G's fault. I can't help but giggle a bit to myself over that one.

I can't believe that with all the great B-Ball minds on here, nobody has come to the conclusion why Billy Packer; Dickie V and Pitino all sang the praises of Tubby! Slick Rick didn't want to be out shone and Packer and Vital wanted a coach at KY that the ACC could man handel every year. I believe Vital and Packer must have been on the search committee when we hired Billy Clyde!

Not all the Tubby do.

Most of what I have read blames it on Tubby's players that are still here and that no one could coach them to anywhere within sniffing distance of a national title

But if BCG is such a great recruiter shouldn't the 2 classes he has brought in start and play more minutes that Tubby's players?

BCG isn't such a great recruiter after all.

I simply don't understand the bitterness toward Pitino for leaving for what could have been a heck of an opportunity for him. Why do UK fans make it so personal?

This ranks right up there with the craziest of the many UK conspiracy theories.
