Rowan County 54 Elliott County 35

I think all of the players from the other teams were at the Rowan vs. East game and the tone was set in that game. The foul ratio was 7 to 1 at the end of the 1st quarter and 20 to 7 at the end of 3 quarters in favor of Rowan. The tone being that Rowan was ranked in the state and the favorite to win the region and the defending champions of the region, so all the calls were going their way. So a team couldn't just play a good game and beat Rowan; they had to play an above outstanding game to beat Rowan. The rest of the region needs to learn from them and play a tougher schedule, get recognition in the state, and be the favorite to win the region next year in order to get some calls. I know that doesn't factor in and that they just call it the way they see it, but that's not how it seems. The complaints about the lopsided calls is not meant as a slight to Rowan or the 9th region refs. It's just not what we are used to in the 16th region. As the saying goes, "You don't know what you've got until it's gone."

Rowan played hard and deserved to win. I congratulate them for being an outstanding team and I think they will represent the region well at state. Good Luck and make us proud! We will be rooting for you to win the state. Also, congratulations to Elliott for having an outstanding season!

What you have said here, some will not agree with I'm sure. But I have had the same thought about that for years. I've seen games that I felt were called exactly the way you have described, and thought to win they would have to prove they are a much better team. I guess some would call it sour grapes, but in these games I had no favorite, so it really didn't matter to me who won.JMO:popcorn:

Congrats to Rowan for the 2-peat and Elliott for an unforgetable season. Regardless of refs, location of the game, or any other excuses other posters my have, IMO Rowan proved they are the best team in the region -especially with the 3 teams they had to play to win it all.

I have no dog in the fight. But the way I saw it.

1. The Griffith girl was MVP. She was the best player in the tournament.

2. The refs had nothing to do with the outcome. With about four minutes to go Elliott Co. was right there and their coach and team blew up. In about 45 seconds it went from a 5 point lead to a 15 point lead.

Congratulation to Elliott Co. on a great year, nothing to be ashamed of.

Congrats to Rowan Co., and good luck in Bowling Green,

What happened at the end of the game or after I heard talk today at the Boys Regional someone was handcuffed and remove from the gym. If you were there did you see anything or is this just talk.

I had already left but . . . I did speak to the individual involved. I can dispel the rumor that NO ONE was taken out in handcuffs!!!!

Sorry to dissappoint !! It was just talk!!!!!!!!!!:thumb:

I never saw anything.

Every team has an "MVP"; the MVP of the tournament usually leads his/her team to a championship. Martin did that by averaging nearly 18 pts, 7 reb, and 4 assists. I'm glad she plays for RC. Griffith was a very good player; however, she ended 6-19 from the field. She had one great quarter in the finals. But as the EC coach said in the paper "it wasn't defense; we PICKED a bad night to shoot poorly". Believe I would have "picked" a different night than the region finals.

It is amazing that a girl that ties the tourney record for most rebounds in the tourney, has the the most rebounds in a game since 1978 in the tourney, who averaged 18pts, 17rebounds, and 6 block shots would even have to justify why she was selected as the MVP of the WHOLE Tournament! What is sad about this is that if you ask her she would gladly trade trophies with Martin anyday. Quit disrespecting not only this great young ladies accomplishments but the coaches who voted her MVP. This is what is wrong with high school sports, no one is ever satisfied, everyone wants to attack those who acheive. Grow up. The game is over. The Elliott Co. lady lions by far exceeded expectations. When Lakin continues her career at the next level I'm sure that those who end their high school career after this season will wish they had what she does.

I certainly agree with this post. Martin was MVP.

Did you watch any of the Tourney?

It's Ok....I'm sure Martin is happy to be on the bus ready to roll to Diddle. As far as the "poor old Elliott County" posts on here....let's face it. They had a great year and had a lot of firsts. But their road to the finals was not exactly a minefield. Two teams at or below .500. So the numbers concerning MVP may be skewed a little. Concerning the excuses for losing and the officials...it's ok too, because lots of people need to place blame when they don't succeed. And, BTW, the Elliott County fans are really something....
