All I'm saying about Pike is that technically he cannot be thrown in as a freshman. If he never got held back for athletics then he wouldn't even be the best sophmore on Dixie's team. Matt Tramel is overall the best under classmen.

If we're talking about the best freshmen in the STATE, Pike shouldn't even be mentioned in this conversation. No disrespect to him, but when you compare him to the elite freshmen in the state (Manning, Beckham, Ivey, Harrison), it's not even close. He'll be better at football than basketball.

The boys' Class of 2011 in the state of Kentucky lost one of its sure-fire Division I prospects when Tony Kimbro Jr. left Manual for a prep schools this fall.

 

But with this class, that's not even a dent in the talent.

 

The sophomore class statewide has some big-time talent that will keep the Division I colleges sniffing around the Bluegrass State for the next few seasons.

 

It's one of those classes we have been waiting to come around.

 

Here are my ratings:

1. Vinny Zollo (photo), Clark County, 6-8: He's already committed to Kentucky and moved to Winchester from Ohio in the off season.
   
2. Robbie Stenzel, Clark County, 6-4: I saw Stenzel last winter and was thinking about putting him ahead of Kimbro; he's a lot of fun to watch.
   
3. Jordan Shanklin, Warren Central, 5-11: One of two talented teammates; Shanklin is already getting a lot of looks.
   
4. George Fant, Warren Central, 6-6: A little more imrpovement and maturity and we could be talking about top 100 nationally with Fant.
   
5. Timmy Knipp, Elliott County, 6-7: Extremely athletic for a big guy.
   

The #1 and #2 ranked players play for GRC. By the time these Sophomores are Seniors......along with the other talented Sophomores on the team should be playing for a state title.

Arnold has good size and is a good athlete. He is very aggressive and looks to make scoring plays from the wing and by running the floor in transition. This lefty is an excellent slasher especially with his strong hand. He can spilt defenders and elevate over taller opponents in the lane. He does a great job of drawing fouls as well. He is very confident and plays with swagger. Arnold does a good job of hitting the offensive glass. He keeps the ball alive with his long arms and is good for a least one tip in. Arnold needs to add strength and work on his right hand in addition to extending his shooting range but has terrific upside.

The last line is going to be the key to his success in the future. If he doesn't develop an outside game he'll still be good. He just won't be as good as he could be.

Mason County has some talented freshman. They are just now getting some minutes at the varsity level, but have provided impressive freshman and jv stats. Tyler Black, Josh Harris and Connor Osbourne will all be good for the Royals in a few years, maybe sooner.

 

You should see Josh Harris and Tyler Black on the football field. They made major contributions to the varsity this year as freshman. Both are still pretty good in basketball though, but not sure if Harris will play all 4 years.

I agree. I see that being his only weakness right now. If he can develop a better outside shot he'll be tough to stop.

Ive seen the 4 listed along with Mike Terry, and although Terry might be considered a top 10 freshman, I dont feel he is as good as these 4. I cant compile a list of the top freshman in the state because I simply havent seen that many play, but Ive seen all mentioned and Terry isnt as good as the other 4.
