Like the guy said above, you get better through practice, regardless of whether you think it's a joke, you don't think it will help etc; it will help IMO. Perhaps UK misses out on the dance-which won't happen becaus it is Kentucky, regardless of wheter we deserve it or not-wins the NIT, that gives the team some confidence going in to next year. It may not be a national title, but at least the season will not end on a poor note. We'll be one of two teams to close the season with a W. That says a lot to me.

Look, they're not good enough to win the NIT.

You would be more excited about winning the last game of the NIT than losing in the Elite 8?

One more problem with the "lets get games in during the NIT" theory:

If we all agree that should UK get into the NCAA tourney that they have zero chance of going very far and if you believe that they should accept an NIT bid because of the "practice" they would get wouldn't we as UK fans rather have the decline the NCAA bid this year and play in the NIT so that the extra "practice" they would get would better prepare them for 2010?

They should just quit now, as you said they aren't just going to get magically better. There is always one more step in the illogical thought process. Kind of like playing add on. Your turn:popcorn:

I've already asked how they are going to suddenly get better by playing these games. No one has answered beyond cliches. I've already stated that one or two NIT games is not going to make #21 stronger, #34 wiser, #13 better, etc. No one has refuted that. No one has told me how playing will make them better.

Add in that it will not help recruiting and could hurt the image of the program in the minds of the recruits UK is trying to bring to Lexington. I can't imagine a top PF and a top 3 man is going to get warm and fuzzy watching UK play Houston in the NIT. They won't even watch and the memory they would have if they did watch would be "struggling" "disappointing" "wow I thought they were big time."

Refute?

I want to know the reasons for turning it down? Why don't teams do it more often?

What's it matter? According to you we can't win the NIT, so they'd be 1 and Done in the tournament.

They may need the money.

They may need the exposure.

They may not have high expectations.

They may/probably do not have the guts.

As for why UK should, I've already posted those reasons.

OK, this thread has been off course for some time now. Why doesn't somebody start a new thread on whether UK should accept or turn down a NIT invitation if they don't make the NCAA.
