I think the closest team Beechwood would compete against is St. Henry. That St. Henry has the better coach and therefore would pull it out. Beechwood loses by 10 to New Cath or Highlands and 15 to Boone.

 

I would have to laugh at your 10 points better due to coaching. Shumate is one of the top coaches in this area. As for losing to Highlands by 10? I recall a 5 point victory against the Birds with Beechwood having more turnovers that game than any other all season. I guess your right though, good season for the Tigers they might as well not show up because they don't have a shot against Boone.:ohbrother::laugh:

And so is Shumate. I know we only have two years to judge Shumate on as far as proof. But that is pretty good proof of the quality of coach Shumate is when you see what he has accomplished at a school with no basketball tradition. if I am AD at a school now and need a coach, I take Shumate over Faust.

Coach Faust has over 250 victories. I'm not doubting Shumate will one day be a great coach, but I think it is a little early to compare him to a future coaching legend of Northern Kentucky.

Fair enough. My main point is to say Faust is worth 10 points in a game against Beechwood is just flat wrong.

I guess Beechwood doesn't have to worry about the Birds in round one of the region. Highlands got beat tonight by NCC worse than Holmes beat Beechwood.

You know it. It wont be a laydown, Dave Faust will have the Crusaders ready but I am just happy they won't meet the Bulldogs until the final. If they make it that far.

VOR, Coach Schumate is a very good coach, but right now the edge has to go to Coach Faust. He is notorious for taking teams with little talent and making them a tough team by mid-late season. He is very good at developing and working with what he has. I have no doubt in my mind though that Coach Schumate will do much bigger things in the future than just making the region tourney. Eventually, he'll move on somewhere bigger and start winning district championships and contending for region championships year in and year out. Hate to say it, but that just won't happen for him at Beechwood, especially having to compete against Holmes, Covcath, and Holy Cross year in and year out..

Anyone on the outside looking in and judging on track records no doubt has to go with Faust. He is a very good coach. That being said, St. Henry should never post a losing record. They are a basketball only school and Faust gets the best athletes in school totally focused on basketball. St. Henry is one of the better basketball coaching situations in N. Ky. with good talent to work with every year.

 

As to Shumate sticking at Beechwood, if he can make it through next year, he may stick around. Next year is going to be a challenge. But there is enough basketball talent in grades 6-9 to have teams as good, if not better, than what he has this year. Of course, he needs to keep this talent playing basketball and that is the challenge at Beechwood. I don't think any jobs he would leave Beechwood for will come open this off season. So there is a chance Beechwood will be able to hang onto him.
