Myrtle Beach / North Myrtle Beach anyone familiar ??

Featured Replies

Any of you folks go to this area for vacation (or whatever)?

Good places to stay or avoid ,homes or condos ?

Looking at beach ,if possible for large family.

Stay in North Myrtle. Last time I went we stayed in main part of Myrtle and it was aweful. Too much rif-raft in that area as North is much calmer

I've been going to North Myrtle for years. We love it. How big of a family are you talking about?

We stayed at Compass Cove. I loved it. Very family friendly, great prices and right on the beach. So much to do.

I'd recommend North Myrtle Beach, Cherry Grove area to be exact. Great place for families. Spent many summers there when our kids were young.

I am from Charleston, SC and would suggest there. But if there are little kids involved Myrtle is always a good place to go. The North side of Myrtle Beach is nicer, so stay that way.

If you want beach front and have a large family, get a house in Holden Beach. It's in NC but only about 35 minute drive if you want to go into Myrtle. If you need to stay in Myrtle I would say North Myrtle too.

Where would you recommend to stay for a family with no small children?

Compass Cove is great with or without kids. You won't feel overwhelmed with kids if you go there without either.

We stay in a friend's condo at North Myrtle every summer. Much better place than Myrtle and depending on the time of day, it's an easy drive to Myrtle and all the sites and stuff there.

North Myrtle has some little places like any downtown beach area. There are some arcades for the kids to play some. Great little Italian Pizza place but can't recall the name, it's on Main Street. Also on Main is Hoskins restaurant and that's great for breakfast.

Lots of Chain restaurants and putt-putt in North Myrtle.

If you have kids there's a lot of different attractions and stuff throughout the Grand Strand.

If you are adults and like music, try a Piano Bar that is in Broadway at the Beach off the Bypass in Myrtle. (Route 17) It's a bar but they have two grand pianos and sometimes others and these guys play all requests. Any requests and they are great everytime I've gone. country, rock, ballads - they play anything.

Lots of shopping at Myrtle. Outlets everywhere, some malls and places like Broadway and Barefoot Landing have lots of novelty shops. House of Blues is in North Myrtle and they have some pretty good acts that show up and play so you might check them out in advance for tickets.

If you need a water park, my kids loved Myrtle Waves. Near there is a NASCAR driving park with the Go-Carts.

Myrtle is as cheap or expensive as you make it. Some years we have the money to eat out a lot and do a lot. Some years we stay in over half the time and grill out and spend more time on the beach. If you putt-putt, do it early when sales and special rates apply. Same for Seafood buffets like Original Benjamin's, Captain George's (?), etc.

I live every year just to get to go to the beach for a week. :thumb:

We like the North Myrtle Beach area and have stayed at Wyham Ocean Blvd several times. Its a short walk to Main Street and a short drive to all the restaurants/entertainment at Barefoot Landing. It takes a little while to get to Broadway at the Beach, but with a 4 lane highway, it's not difficult.

I really enjoyed The Caribbean Resort. Great place for kids.

North Myrtle is getting pretty crowded and packed now but it is still far better than South Myrtle.
