February 20, 200917 yr Picking a kid up and slamming him twice is not detaining. The principal has probably close to 100 pounds on the kid. You justify it all you want but what if this was your son? You wouldn't have a problem at all with a grown man picking him up and slamming him on the ground? If my son was running his mouth ,disrespecting the Principal or was making any kind of threat...By all means kick his butt...Then when He gets home He is getting from me... I do have to say I'm confidant enough to know My son wouldn't be in this situation...He knows better...
February 20, 200917 yr I can't imagine a reason to justify, throwing the student down like was shown. Be interesting to hear the comments from the Principal, regarding his stance.
February 20, 200917 yr It's hard to justify the principal's actions unless he thought a weapon was involved. I agree that from the clip, it doesn't bode well for the principal.

February 20, 200917 yr The kids know that school employees can't do what was done and parents don't discipline their children (for the most part) either. That's why the inmates are running the asylum.

February 20, 200917 yr If anyone has a friend or relative that works in the school they can understand the principals frustration. Some of the stories we hear about kids cursing the teachers only to be sent to the office and get punishment that does not even phase the kid. I am not saying the Principal was justified in slamming him to the ground but if this country would allow the bible and the belt back in schools much of this stuff would be stopped before it escalates to this level. The Bible and the belt do not belong in schools. Schools are for learning. They are not for religion or beatings.

What more can we remove? WOW! I'm still not sure why the Bible belongs in the school. Do you think everyone in our country is a Christian? Do you think it might be offensive to some to have to learn from a Bible, especially if they do not believe in the same things that Christians do? And btw, in the schools I substitute at, the pledge of allegiance is still said every morning by every student. And what "basic fundamentals of education" have been removed from schools? I do not think that disrespecting a teacher is right by any means...but I do not think beating them for doing so is the correct or just punishment either.

What more can we remove? WOW! Schools have not removed patriotism. Many schools have events centered around veterans and have speakers come in from the military. We still start every day with the pledge and our basketball games with the national anthem. Walk in my classroom and you will see an american flag with a photo of my uncle in his sailor's uniform from Korea and my father in his army dress uniform between tours of Vietnam. Schools have not removed the basic fundamentals of education. We just go beyond that now and cover more depth, making it more meaningful. Schools may have removed the belt, but they have not removed the discipline. The "inmates" do not "run the asylum" at all schools. I invite those that are in schools where the "inmates" do to come and shadow our principal and assistant principal. In the grand scheme of things, religion hasn't even been removed from the schools. Students can still be christian (or, dare I say...jewish, muslim, hindu, ect) and pray when they want. They can wear crosses or stars of david or other symbols. They can read the Bible and say grace before their meal. They learn about a variety of religions in there world civilizations classes. The difference is that it is not forced on anyone.

That might be true...but don't you think you should have the right to make that call and be the one doing the "grabbing"? Could the other person making that call be wrong or possibly have other issues that makes him/her more likely to act out on your child?
