February 13, 200917 yr I disagree. I pay taxes too and I have been yelling for years "cut taxes and eliminate unneccesary spending" but I have decided that it is dishonest to do so with getting down to the details. Like you criticized President Obama for his vague promise of "Change", we have no right to criticize the stimulus package (which, as bad as it may be, is actually a plan) and not offer up some specifics of our own. In fact, this is the very reason why the Republican party is so terrible right now. Stimulus package = 1500 pages full of something that not one single Congressman can explain to their constituents. They don't have a clue what's in it or what it will do. Name me one Congressman that can guarantee they know and understand everything that is in the bill. If there has ever been a bill that better be understood, it's this one. And because I don't offer up specifics of my own...I don't have a right to criticize the thing?????? Give me a break!:taz:
February 13, 200917 yr Your solution to the economic woes is................. No bailout. No stimulous package. Free market capitalism means some businesses thrive, some fail. The ones that have made poor decisions should fall on their face. If the gov't feels the need to interject itself, they need to lower taxes, cut out unneccesary spending, and trim the size of the federal government.

Give me a break!:taz: When my kids have come to me with complaints, or my employees, I've always asked "What would you do?" 90% of the time, they've said "I don't know, but somebody needs to do something." So then I ask, "If you don't know what to do, what is your complaint?" I can't accept "I pay taxes" as a legitimate reason to complain. A legitimate reason to complain is that you can specifically identify a solution. The point is, if you feel something is wrong, and you feel there are better solutions, it stands to reason that you feel you have a better solution. But, a solution isn't complaining. A solution is a plan. So, what would be your plan?
February 13, 200917 yr Why do we worship at the altar of the free market? I just bird walked I know, but I support the stimulus even if there is some fat.

It is not a free market- there are government regulations, some of which are good and some of which are bad. However, we do worship at the altar of market mechanisms because they are initiated by the demands of individual consumers. To be honest, I really think Keynesian economics (as this stimulus package relies heavily on) have been proven to have failed and have their roots in collectivist ideas. The idea that government actions- which, in essence, require centralized planning- can save the economy will only lead to abuse or failure- if not intentionally but accidentally, because, simply put, there is no one person smart enough to know what is the best way to allocate all resources. Rather, the most effective mechanism is to allow each person to use their limited pool of economic resources to what they think is best.

I can't imagine that I have a solution for the country's economic woes. In my first post I described what many of us have to do in our own households when times are tough financially. I can relate to those things I described. I can't help but believe the same solutions we all use in our own little worlds will work for the biggest of governments. Specifics...Buy a roll of bologna instead of the sliced variety. It will save a few bucks until you can afford sliced deli ham and cheese. Most of all, don't spend money you don't have. Hasn't history proved that the market will rebound just as quickly without gross government spending? Is that specific enough? Can I complain now? Just a little?:thumb:
February 14, 200917 yr I certainly wouldn't pass a useless bill full of nothing but pet projects that will only stimulate the politicians whose projects they are. What a joke the Dems have made of this and shame on Obama for his poor judgment and behavior on something so important. He gets a big fat F so far for his pathetic leadership capabilities. I pray he gets much, much better than this. God help us.

But, IMO, if you "generally" complain, and have nothing to bring to the table, then it's wasted energy. Might as well just deal with whatever everyone else decides.

It will be whatever Pelosi, Obama and the democrats choose. I'm sure if they'd let me sit at the table and listen a few days I would have something to serve up. I'm sure I would be laughed under the table instead.

Given my knowledge of your previous posts, I would think you'd be skeptical, but you might try e-mailing through their site. You never know...you might have the brilliant idea that's missing. But, if you don't try, you never know.
February 14, 200917 yr Cut taxes, incentivize businesses to grow IN AMERICA, eliminate the capital gains tax to spur investment. Sure we can have some projects, but the government is trying to spend it's way into prosperity and NO nation has ever done this. They are spending money they don't have and my children and grandchildren will have to pay the price for this.

It seems to me to be a smoke screen for not knowing how to answer a specific complaint. I'm going to turn it on you and please have the courtesy to answer my question. Why do you think that this stimulus (I prefer porkulus) is going to do anything other then push us further into debt? If you support it then surely you have to have a reason why and I want specifics of why you support it.
